BAND OF THE MONTH: THE CAB!
![]() I do, in fact, remember my first encounter with The Cab, and it would be when Warner offered us an interview with them when they were touring with Dashboard Confessional and Panic! (wait, it might have been post !) at the Disco. Can't remember the name of the tour to save my life right now, but we were sent a CD and the offer, and after a listen, we accepted happily. Listening to the CD, they have a clean, crisp pop-punk sound that is absolutely infectious. The Vegas natives were some of the sweetest we had interviewed at that point, and being signed to a major label and still giving us an opportunity to speak with them was a definite high point in our careers. As I said, their sound is catchy and their lyrics leave no doubt in your mind that they're signed to Fueled By Ramen. They're that band that I put on when I just want to forget about whatever the hell is going on around me and zone out or dance. With songs like "Bounce" (probably my personal favourite. Although now that the bands I listen to / go out to interview are the same age as me (/Bed spread bandit since '89/) makes me feel old) and "High Hopes in Velvet Ropes" they're a good gateway band to a lot of other genres. Or if you just like painfully dancey music, they're definitely a band to check out. Basically, I can sum this up in the words that I used to introduce them to Caity: OMG. LISTEN. NOW. Or, at least, give them a go! ![]() Caity first introduced me to The Cab back when I was planning my wedding. She worked on a playlist for my bachelorette party, and asked if I liked the Cab. I hadn't heard of them, and she played me "bounce" as a sample. I immediately started bouncing my head along to the beat, and affirmed that they should be added to the playlist. The Cab is an amazing band to listen to when you're in a great mood, and want to dance. They are also a great band to put you in that mood if you're not already there. They have a fun, poppy sound that makes a Tuesday night when you're home by yourself into a personal dance party, Risky Business style (minus the prostitutes, and maybe add a layer or two if you're cold - not that I've done that or anything.) Favorite songs for this are their cover of Queen's "I Want to Break Free," "Bounce," and "One of Those Nights." The Cab is awesome. That's all I really need to say. But if you don't believe me, just have a listen for yourself. The links to do that are all there down at the bottom for you. And if you think it's awesome-sauce, then you'll be excited to know word on the street (internet) is that the Cab will be releasing a new album this year. So, be on the look out for a brand, shiny, new album at your local record store...or Itunes, if you either a. don't have a local record store, b. have no idea what one is, or c. both a and b. ![]() I don't remember when exactly I decided that I like The Cab, or even when I had the opportunity to do so. Although, Im pretty close to sure that it was some time before I became a part of the Sound Faction. At the time, I was a little bit darker with my musical tastes, so I really wasn't very fond of them at first. Actually, it wasn't until I happened upon a once-played track in my "Miscellaneous Things From Caity" playlist (Yes, I have one of those) quite a while later that they started to grow on me. When they did, they did it right. The Cab, Ive found, makes a really great road-trip band. Their music is capable of making any long driving period, a lot of fun! And for the most part, they're pretty clean-mouthed, so you can even safely blast em' with the family! They're a lot of fun, I think they can generally be enjoyed by anyone. They've also got this really great cover of "I Want to Break Free", by Queen. I promise its worth a look into. I know we've also got an interview or two with them, done by Manda and Jen. Those are worth a peek, too. Like any band, I cant guarantee that they'll be a perfect match to your personal tastes, but it never hurts to try something new. ![]() I honestly for the life of me can't remember the first time I heard The Cab, or how they came onto my playlist. I do remember that first faithful time that we had a chance to meet the guys and sit down and talk to them. As with any band, there are always rumors circling around the internet, people say crazy things in this world, and no is free of it, however, when we met the band and they relaxed we got to see just how amazing these young men really were. The music itself does speak for itself. One thing that really impressed me on their debut album 'Whisper War' was the amazing vocals for Alex DeLeon. He has an amazing voice that just flows perfectly and amazingly throughout the entire album. By now most of you who follow the site are aware of my soft spot for boybands, well I wouldn't exactly call The Cab a boyband, but they are making music that fits a gap that has been missing for a while in that 'genre'. I'm not saying its a bad thing, if anything, its a really good thing. It's really hard for me to pick a song by The Cab that is a favorite, but if I were to choose I would really have to say its a toss up between 'High Hopes In Velvet Ropes' and 'Can You Keep A Secret?' and 'Zzzzz'. Can't pick one, sorry! I have to give an honorable mention to their cover of 'Disturbia', it's brillant! Now, over the past little while as a fan of this band will know, The Cab has had some changes in their line-up, some members have departed (Ian Crawford/Cash Colligan/Bryan Dawson) but The Cab has still remained in tack with the solid threesome of the Alex's (DeLeon/Marshall/Johnson). Only good things, and good music, can be expected from the band in the future. If you are like me, and follow the band on twitter, and heck even the ex members such as Ian Crawford, it was announced over the weekend that he will be rejoining The Cab in the studio to record guitars on their upcoming Symphony Soldiers. It had been a mere rumor beforehand but now it has been confirmed, and as a fan we can only hope that this might mean the beginning of something amazing. After reading the tweet, I had turned to my friend visiting from New York and shared the news with her, I was met with a bunch of squeals of excitment. I do believe that this will be met with nothing but postive vibes from the amazing fanbase that The Cab has. I've been lucky enough to be able to catch them live a few times, and I think that if you have a chance, when they release their new album (heck even before if they are doing shows) to see them live, you should jump right on that train and never get off. You will not in any way be disappointed in what you hear or what you see. ![]() I have a major soft-spot for The Cab. Could it be all the times I've driven down the road with my best friends singing "Bounce" at the top of our lungs? Perhaps the toothachingly sweet cover of Queen's "I Want To Break Free" (my FAVORITE Queen song, btw...), or maybe, just maybe it's that they totally friggin rock! Either way, my soft-spot for The Cab is majorly huge. I first heard The Cab when Manda sent me a link (youtube perhaps?) for the song "Bounce". I believe the exact words from her may have been "OMG. LISTEN. NOW." And since I obey orders, I listened. I loved. For anyone who is a fan of dancey poppy music that is just plain fun to belt out and get your hairbrush-microphone groove on to, The Cab is for you! They are one of my default "dance around the room like an idiot" bands. I have never had the pleasure to see them live, so I have no reference as far as their show goes, but I hear from friends that have gone to a show that it's a bitchin good time! My favorite songs from The Cab would have to be, of course the Queen Cover, and "Bounce", but also "Vegas Skies" for a slow-it-down power-ballad, "This City Is Contageous", "You've Got The Nerve" and "Zzzzz". But as always, for your own opinion you'll have to check them out! See the links at the bottom to listen to The Cab and here's to hoping you like them as much as we do! ![]() I have nothing but wonderful feelings for The Cab. My friend Heather first introduced me to them in 2008 with their album Whisper War, and I’m so glad she did. Listening to the album I took an immediate liking to “High Hopes in Velvet Ropes,” and “That 70’s song.” However I would have to say my favorite songs would be “One of Those Nights,” “Vegas Skies,” and “Can You Keep a Secret?” The Cab was one of the first interviews I did for The Sound Faction and I remember being so nervous and then I walked in and started talking to them and to this day, it remains one of my favorite interviews. They are such nice guys, and so much fun. Every time we talk to them we end up having fun and leaving with a great interview. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing The Cab live four times and every time they always put on such an upbeat, incredibly entertaining show. I even got to see Alex DeLeon do some acoustic stuff after a show once, and again, incredible. The Cab is a very talented group of young men and I highly recommend listening to them. And if you ever get the opportunity to catch a live show, don’t miss it. LINKS
