BAND OF THE MONTH: TEETER

The summer always brings into your radar a ton of new music, what with all the touring festivals that start once all the snow leaves the ground and the flowers start to bloom. And it was like a new flower blooming that I discovered Teeter. You can prowl the grounds of warped tour accepting numerous pieces of paper from people, accepting numerous CD's from random people telling you to listen to their band. But honestly? Does anyone really listen to those CD's? Or are they filed away in the 'do not care' pile, which most people call the trash? I know for a fact I kept every CD that I was handed at Warped Tour. However, it did take me a while to getting around to them. Mostly because my life is a hectic mess sometimes, but I decided one day to finally make the time to listen to them. And by them I mean I pulled this two song CD sampler from my cd holder.

It was just a plain silver CD with a sticker that read the band's name, the song titles and a myspace address. I was like, okay lets see what we have here. I popped it in, loaded the songs into my iTunes and away I went. From the first moment I heard the songs I was completely excited about it. I found my head following the beat, which meant my feet weren't far behind. I'm guessing by now some of you are wondering where I'm going with this. Well lets just say I found a staple on my listening radar. Teeter became something that I was going to look into. After a quick message off to the band on their myspace to try and arrange an interview with the band (which was answered by their manager Dave, who from that day forward has been amazing), the Teeter craze at The Sound Faction began.

I, of course, passed their myspace on to everyone and demanded (in a nice way of course, because I'm just like that) [Management Note: She totally threatened us, we're note even kidding...(but we're glad she did)] that they listen to this amazing band. There wasn't a day that went by that I didn't stop by their myspace to hear the rest of the songs that I didn't have. I am going to be honest here, I rarely take the chance on something new. All of my new music usually comes from my friends. Usually, they send me a band that they really adore and I end up falling in love with them. This is the first real time I took a leap on my own and dived into something new. Teeter is one of those bands that you can't help but enjoy. It's a mix of great rock sounds, with pop and a voice that flows through the speakers and makes you want to listen to what they have to say. I don't think I can honestly say there is one song that I don't like, “Again and Again” is purely amazing, “Standing at Your Window”, amazing, “Kiss Me (and Kill Me After)” also amazing. I think you see a trend here, right? But if you something totally amazing, you should go check out the acoustic version of “Kiss Me” on the bands myspace (the link is below so don't worry).

This Toronto, Ontario based band made up of Tommy, JP, Mike, Marko and Paul are going to go places. I see a bright future in store for this very talented group. And I think if you are reading this, on October 17th when the album is finally released into the world, you should go purchase yourself a copy. Because you will never regret it. And if you are in the Toronto area you should fork out the 12 bucks and actually make your way to Reverb to attend the album release party. DO IT. Not only because we said so, but because would you really want to miss out on an epic night? And as if you needed any icing on the cake, four of your amazing staff members here at The Sound Faction are going to be there

I'll be up front and honest here: I'm writing this Band of the Month review as I'm hearing Teeter for the very first time. Literally, I just clicked on the band's myspace and I'm just now getting my first taste of Teeter.

On first impressions, the song "Standing At Your Window" is totally the type of song I would rock around my apartment to on cleaning day. It's definitely one of those open the windows, crank up the music and dance around with a bottle of Lysol while belting it out and annoying the crap out of your neighbors types of songs. I'm really enjoying what I'm hearing, nice guitar melodies, fantastic vocals, lots of breaks and a great beat!

The rest of the myspace samples are great! I'm totally into this! It makes me want to grab my car, pick up Doctah J and go for one of our super-fun day trips! Definitely great highway road-trip music!

I guess the question, and what I take into consideration while writing these Band of the Month reviews, is: would I recommend Teeter to my friends?

I'm going with an emphatic "Hell yes!" Will I be picking up the album as soon as it's released? "Hell yes!" Am I going to go find some lysol and start cleaning? ...Probably not. But I'm gonna hang around their myspace for a bit longer!

Teeter: Do it, or else I'll spray Lysol in your eyes.

I must admit that the first time I heard about Teeter was from Natty, and it was when she told me about this band she really liked that she wanted to interview that, well, offered us a chance to go to their CD release party. So of course, trusting Natty's taste completely I jumped over to Teeter's MySpace and spent the next half an hour bouncing around to the couple songs that they had up on their MySpace.

They're my kind of music completely, melodic and upbeat, definitely catchy, and I agree completely with Caity, perfect dancing-around-in-your- apartment-while-cleaning music, they'll have you bopping your head along while you scrub out the toilet! ...Okay, maybe not the toilet, cuz that's really icky, but almost every other occasion while you're cleaning!

If you don't like Teeter, well... I just don't know what to say about that. It seems like it'd be impossible not to like them. I'm stoked to see them live and I'm definitely going to be picking up the CD when it comes out!

I first heard about Teeter when Natty called me one night and asked if I remember her getting handed this random cd at Warped Tour. My memory isnt the greatest, but I remember that because I was the one drying everything (from the massive hurricane like storm!) that was in her purse when we got back. She sounded really excited and said they were really good. Now at this time, internet for my whole town was down. And I dont like when there is good music to be heard, and I cant hear it!! But a week later, when it finally came back, I checked out their myspace. Pretty sure I just sat there for an hour listening to the songs over and over!! These guys are friggin awesome!! This is the kind of music I love rocking out to when I've had a crap day and I just want to smile. and I mean full-on rocking out...Air guitar, dancing, jumping on the furniture, scaring my roommate. the whole sha-bang!! and I infact HAVE rocked out to these guys on a crap day, and even better, they DID make me smile!!

I'm super stoked for the album to come out and you should be too. They will make you smile! Seriously, check these guys out. They are five very talented people, and I'm really glad I know about them. It was worth the week wait!

When I first heard about Teeter, I was immediately interested (and that was BEFORE I heard their music.) Another amazing band from the great land of Canada? Was it too good to be true? After a listen to their stuff on Myspace, I knew it wasn’t. The boys from Teeter have this amazing, unparalleled ability to combine some rocking riffs with soft, heartfelt lyrics. The best comparison I can give is a combination of Mariana’s Trench, Quietdrive, and Manchester Orchestra (which, have all been feature on SF. Coincidence? I think not.)

Teeter knows how to tell a story with their lyrics, especially “Kiss Me (Then Kill Me After)” The lyrics tell the universal story of unrequited/lost love, and it makes the listener connect with the song. Their debut album is dropping October 17, and I know that album is going to have even more heartfelt, storytelling lyrics.

So, quick recap: Teeter = amazing new Canadian band, with the musical talent to go very far. Debut album comes out on October 17th. Pick it up and give it a listen. Why? Because the SF staff is cool, and you want to be cool too.
