Summerside & Ludo - February 10, 2009

I usually tend to like getting together with my friends and just hanging out and doing whatever. So, when one of my friends suggested that I come to a show with her at this little place called The Drake Hotel, I said sure why not. It would give us a chance to hang out and a chance to see a band that I've heard about but never got to see in person. What band is this you might ask? Well it was Summerside from Burlington, Ontario. I had heard of them a while back while looking through someone else’s MySpace and seeing them in their top friends. I grew up in a town called Summerside (and NO it wasn't PEI), so therefore the name intrigued me a lot. Manda is supposed to be interviewing them (SOON I hope, so you can keep checking back for that).

On to the show. I wasn't exactly sure what I was expecting really. So I sat back with my glass of ice (yes I’m that girl at the show with the glass of ice and I’m munching on it). We watched the band take the stage and I have to say a cold shiver ran down my spine. The songs I heard were amazing and catchy and extremely enjoyable. They did play a lot of the new stuff that they had been working on and it sounded amazing. I'm going to be honest that I hadn't really taken the time to listen to any of their old stuff all that frequently, life keeps me busy. I did spend most of their set trying to engrain it into my brain and memorize every little thing that happened. However, as per always, you can't remember everything. But one thing I do know was that they put on an amazing live show with lots of energy. The band as a unit was amazing; they fit well and flowed like a well oiled machine. I really would have like to stand up front and dance my butt off but, at the Drake that wasn't possible for me, as I only dance in crowds (an affect of being shy). There isn't really a bad thing I can say about the band besides the fact I think that lead singer needs to have two microphones so he doesn't have to keep transferring it back and forth between the keyboard. Keep up the good work boys! With the talent you have you will be going places!

The next band up was Ludo. I had never heard of them before, Jessica had me listening to them on the way to the venue and I found them very entertaining. There show itself is really very entertaining and keeps your eye glued to the stage to see what exactly is going to happen next. Between goofy dance moves and an acoustic performance, you never know what exactly you are going to expect from this band out of St. Louis Missouri. If you like an electric stage show and enjoy some alternative rock music fused with humor then I think that you should check out this band for sure. You will like them!

I'm going to leave with one of the lyrics from a Summerside song that really jumped out at me and that I ultimately fell in love with:

I want to Love you, I don't know if I can. Here's to hoping you understand.
