The Biggest STFU Moment of All Time

Holy CRAP! Are you ever surfing through the internet, bored out of your face, and you skim through your favourites list and get a chuckle out of old goodies once forgotten? Ever find out that someone you idolize does something else that you were completely unaware of, but liked anyway?

Am I losing you? I'll back it up.

It's a lazy Saturday at my apartment. Mind-numbingly boring hours wasted away staring at photoshop and listening to my "retouching" playlist on loop while I retouch photos that I really don't care about. Why retouch them, then? Because I get paid to. Simple as that. After the 26th horribly exposed image and compensations made for colour correction and zooming in at 300% on teenage acne, I decide that I just can't handle it anymore, and I need a break. A smoke break, then a sandwich and a glass of pop while I cruise the internet for a while. (Sidenote: has anyone else noticed how boring the internet has gotten?) Check my usual bookmarks: gmail, a few webcomics, ModelMayhem, nothing at all is new or worth looking at, so I putz around in my bookmarks.

A few guitar tabs, eh... it's saturday evening, I'll let my neighbors have some peace, some random flash videos, YouTube links, blogspot, www.yourscenesucks.com- Ha! That's always good for a laugh, I wonder if there's anything new!

I click on the link and giggle about the sweeping generalizations of today's iScenes, and notice there are a few links! Cool, updates! Clicking through the random links brings me to the "About" page, I enjoy the "mission" statement so to speak and then KA-BLAM!!

yourscenesucks.com is run by ROB DOBI!? That is seriously a STFU moment! And I don't take internet speak lightly, that is quite seriously a STFU moment in all of it's STFU-ing glory.

You see, ya'll, Rob Dobi is one of the REASONS that I took up Photography. I'm not making that up, that's a true frickin story. Years ago I wandered upon His Website in a random google search and fell massively in love with Rob Dobi's photographic works, taking images from inside abandoned Insane Asylums, Penitentiaries, Hospitals, Schools, et cetera. Urban ruins portrayed with phenomenal simplicity, images of simple items in ruin and wreckage that will twist your stomach and make you grit your teeth. I wanted to make images like that, I wanted to make people feel uneasy and effect the way they look at something for the rest of their lives... so I took up Photography, Rob Dobi is the reason why.

Now, I've been looking at yourscenesucks.com for a while, and I had NO freakin idea that it was run by, designed by, and illustrated by Rob Dobi. When I clicked on the "About" and saw his name at the bottom, I figured it HAD to be coincidence, it HAD to just be a different person. But clicking on the link took me directly to his website with his gallery of photos that had twisted my mind all those years ago.

DAMN that was a cool moment. If you don't go to his website and look at his photographs you officially suck.
