Linzy's "Song Per Mood"
GUEST ARTICLE BY LINZY

Happy: Rise Against’s “Swing Life Away”

This song makes me think about summer, which automatically makes me think about my dear friends and all the fun we have, be it hanging out in the school yard, or finding time to meet up and go for walks around town. Something about the way this song is sung is just blissful. It makes you think of the good times, when some music can sometimes wreck my good mood by making me remember the bad.

Angry: Alexisonfire’s “Midnight Regulations”

When I am angered, I like nothing more than to just be angry. This song has a mixture of that “hate” sound, with enough meaning to make me think, despite my anger. Then, of course, there is the hard drumming, and deep guitars. Not to mention the one singer who has been placed for the “rougher” vocal pieces. I like those parts. Nothing like a bit of growl/scream/yelling when you’re going through a rage stage.

Miserable: Evanescence’s “Good Enough”

Good Enough features lots of piano parts, which are really comforting to me. Everything is just so pretty yet seemingly intelligent at the same time that I really can’t help but smile a little. It ranges in notes from the treble to bass notes and everything about it, though the moods of the song change a lot, just seems to fit. Almost like a musical puzzle, if you think about it…

Tired: Owl City’s “Vanilla Twilight”

All the pretty bell sounds and computerized tinkling in this song just have this lovely way of soothing me into sleep. The lyrics, which are equally pretty, often assist in this task, when I’m not tempted to sing. It’s a really blowy, sweet song I find myself playing when I’m really tired, but cant fall asleep. It works. I really commend Owl City for being my sleeping pill. Don’t know what I would do without him.

Confused: Jakalope’s “Don’t Cry”

A lot of Jakalope’s music involves words that are meaningful (A major plus in my department) but aren’t super massive. When I’m feeling confused, or out of it, my brain just doesn’t comprehend those damn big words. It just doesn’t work! I get into this little “Okay, and treposition means what?!” kind of stage. This song is mostly made up of smaller words, or ones that are easier to understand, and therefore is tolerable by a confused version of Linzy.
