As a general rule, I find bands with ridiculous song titles to be pretentious. Especially when the names don't match up with the songs even a little bit. But despite my eye-rolling at some of the song titles on "Goodnight, Nurse" by Something Fatal, I am pleased to say that I don't find them to be pretentious in the slightest! Even as painful as it was to type "Russian Roulette What's The Score Bullet 1-0" into my iTunes for track 8.
Something Fatal definitely hit the mark with this record! Rather... they hit several marks! The record is all over the map, but not in a bad way, in a versatile way! Some songs remind me of mid 90's proto-alternative, some remind me of acoustic Pink Spiders songs, and still others are vinyl-crackling snap-snap poetry, but all of it works together for a great record and a great listen! Nothing stands out in a bad way from the rest of the record, even considering how different all the tracks are.
Something Fatal has definitely nailed it point-blank with this one, and I look forward to seeing what the band will be up to next. I highly recommend "Goodnight, Nurse" to fans of great indie-style bands!
