Six Degrees of Spotify Separation
Are you familiar with the theory of Six Degrees of Separation? The theory suggests that everyone is about six steps away (by means of introduction) from any other person on Earth, so that "friend of a friend" statements can be made (on avg) connecting any two people in six steps or lesss. There was a movie about in in 93. Also a meme featuring Kevin Bacon.
Last night while I was listening to my Spotify playlists and trying to think of an idea for an article, I looked on twitter and saw that Dan Castady of the Chicago Rock Band The Fold had made a six degrees of separation reference and it got me thinking! Spotify has a neat feature that when looking at a band or artists profile there is a "related artists" tab, where you can find recommended bands if you like the band whose profile you're looking at. So what if we play a little game of Six Degrees of Separation via Spotify? Can I navigate through "related artists" tabs in six clicks or less to connect two random bands? To test it out, I grabbed my iPod and threw it on shuffle, the first two bands to play will be who I attempt to connect on Spotify (Not all bands have a Spotify artist profile, so I will have to check and make sure they are able to be found on Spotify first, if they are, game on)! I'll tell you all of the related artist options, and will bold the one that I clicked on to take me closer to my goal! Okay here goes nothing!
