Sirena - Kiss It Goodbye

You may notice that New Jersey's Sirena is going to pop up a lot of the site (or our Youtube...) over the next few weeks, and that's with good cause. What with our recent finding of them, and interview that will be going up in the next little while. When we got the chance to talk to them, they were awesome enough to give us all a copy of their CD, Kiss It Goodbye, and honestly, it would be a down right shame if we didn't talk about it.

The album opens with the instrumental A Man Can Dream, Can't He?, and it's one of the most mellow things you'll find on the entire album. Well, that and the closer Get The Lights On The Way Out, which is practically a reprise of the opener. I say this is the most mellow thing on the album, but that's not to say it's exactly mellow. It's still something you can put it and it gets your head bopping around. It's a great start to the CD, and it leads in perfectly to the rest of the songs.

Everything seems to fit together perfectly, each song compliments the ones before it, and after it. The vocals, which can switch impressively between singing and guttural screaming (which you actually don't expect to hear come out of the same throat as the singer! The sounds are completely different, and both work extremely well with the instrumentals).

The lyrics, though a little hard to pick up on when you initially listen (or that could just be me) are perfect screamo (which is why I had trouble picking them out at first, but that's just me), and a personal favourite of mine would definitely be "The shore lines and city lights breathe with me, I couldn't take this in even if I tried" From The Trick To Falling Asleep (Is Staying Awake).

Sirena is definitely one of those bands that, no matter how good the CD, are truly at their best live. No CD could capture their energy and enthusiasm as well as a live show could, so if you check out the CD and don't dig it, don't let it stop you from catching a show. It will give you a new appreciation of their music, because you can tell when you watch them, that their all is in this.

A link which will pop up a few times over the next little while will be this one, which is, of course, their MySpace.
