The Sound Faction vs. Tim Seeley

As anyone out there knows, I’m a big comic book nerd, and just a big horror movie nerd. So when I went into a local comic shop and discovered the series Hack/Slash, about a hot goth chick and a Jason Voorhees-esque sidekick hunting down slashers, I was hooked. After reading the letter column in one issue, I found a way to get in touch with Tim Seeley, a fellow horror and comic book nerd, and the creator of the series for an interview about Cassie and Vlad, as well as some of his other projects. Enjoy!

"Hey, if they could clone a dinosaur, they could make a Jesus."
- Tim Seeley

First and foremost for our readers out there, roll call! Who are you, and what do you do?

I'm Tim Seeley, I am a guy from Wisconsin who lives in Chicago. I Iike comics and beer. I currently draw NEW EXILES for MARVEL and write HACK/SLAHS for DEVIL'S DUE PUBLISHING.

How did Hack Slash start? What was your inspiration?

I've been a big fan of trashy, B-Movie style films for years as well as horror movies. And, i was really looking to create something unique in comics. I got all looped up on cold medicine once after a week of a killer fall cold, and I was watching a slasher movie marathon. I started to notice that there was paterns through out the movies, and osrt of imagined that all these films took place in the same world. That lead me to make up some characters that would LIVE in that sort of world.

What well-known slasher would you most want to pit Cassie and Vlad against next?

I'm always up for anything I can think of a good story for. But, I think I'm realizing that I might be better off sticking with the smaller companies, and characters owned by individuals, cuz working with the Re-Animator guys was SO easy compared to what I'm sure I'd have to go through with a character owned by Warner Brothers or something.

Now, there are a lot of fans out there that do some well-done (and some not-so well done) costumes of Cassie and Vlad for comic-cons and such. Have you seen any that you really like or that stand out in their accuracy?

I love any reader who dresses as up as my characters. Of course, as a dude, I always respond best to the really cute girls in Cassie get ups. I've seen some amazing Vlads though too. Probably a favorite of mine is a transgendered person who dressed as a really great Cassie.

So the big question on some people's minds is about the Hack Slash movie, which seems to be in a perpetual hiatus. Has there been any progress on that front thus far?

It's never really been on hiatus per se. Just slow in development..heh...well, not even THAT slow compared to other Hollywood things. Consider that Wonder Woman was in developments for like 17 years! So, yeah, it's always been going along, constatntly building steam, and finding all the right people to work on it. So, yeah, it's happenin'...just much slower than a comic book. :)

Who would you most want to see make a guest appearance in the movie? Any big actors or characters?

It seems like H/S would be a natural place to have a bunch of horror cameos, so as long as it doesn;t make it too cheesey, it'd be a blast to have some fun genre walk ons.

Can you tell us a bit more about Loaded Bible at all? It seems to be a touch hard to find at some comic shops and just as hard to dig up many details...

Really? Damn, that's too bad. If your comic store is any good, they should be able to order ya a trade paperback from Image Comics. If your store won;t order you a book you want, tell them they suck.

Loaded Bible is my sci-fi, post-apocalyptic Vampire epic! With JESUS CHRIST in it! That's all ya need to know, right?! Heh..it's based on an idea my brother and I had when we wer kids and had just seen Jurassic Park. My brother was like "Hey, if they could clone a dinosaur, they could make a Jesus." That led to a sotry about religion, war, politics, and exploding heads.

What can we expect to see with Hack Slash for the future?

We're pluggin' right along..after Re-Animator, we'll have a big storyline that involves national law enforcement taking in interest in Cassie's activities, as well as some romance stuff, and some crazy ass new bad guys, and one crazy ass new good guy!

How about with Loaded Bible?

The trade paperback is out now, so make that comic store order it for ya, or get it on AMAZON. If the trade sells well enough, I'll do a sequel, called LOADED BIBLE: HOLY WAR. And that'll be all kinds of NUTS! :)

Now: The Sound Faction is made up of six staff members who are all super random and love to make people laugh... we like to end all of our interviews with five random questions, so if you're game let's do it!

If you could be any fictional character, who would you be and why?

I'd be He-Man. You get to be a lazy ass spoiled Prince most of the time, and a big buff dude whenever there's trouble. And, you get to hang out with Teela and ride a damn tiger to work.

What's your favorite five letter word?

Butts. the only thing better than one butt, is a whole bunch of 'em.

Video games! Preferred system, game, and why?

Aw man..okay, here's where you find out that I never play video games, and couldn't even tell ya what systerms there are. Um... my phone has like a Tetris sorta game on it that I played on the L a few months ago....

If you could write for any old school comic book, what one would you do, and why?

DEVIL DINOSAUR! First, it's about a super powered t-rex. Second, it's also about a monkey boy. And they fight other dinosaurs. Nuff said.

Freddy, Jason, Michael Myers, Pinhead, Chucky, or that creepy kid from the Grudge. Who do you think would win in an all-out brawl?

Michael Myers. He's the Batman of the slasher world. He lurks back and lets everyone else fight. It's down to Freddy and Pinhead, and Pinhead wins. Then, Michael comes out the shadows and knifes him.
