Album Review: Sebastien Lefebvre - You Are Here EP
GUEST REVIEW BY TASHA PASTOR

Alright, let's be honest. His guitar pick asks the question many are asking lately "Who the F%^$ is Sebastien?". Well... to answer you, he is the charming and quiet rhythm guitarist for Simple Plan. He is Sébastien Lefebvre and he just released his own EP. Weeks ago the anticipation started when Sebastien released information that you can pre-order his EP. Twitter on MY end went crazy. Questions, comments, excitement and frustration.

All over the world, his devoted fan base was aching to get a hold of his EP. The countdown began to October 20Th. Special bundles were being promoted left, right and center. Rhino records offered you a tote bag, signed poster and a CD. Merchdirect offered you an official T-shirt and CD and iTunes Canada offered you a bonus track and audio commentary. What to do? Oh, what to do? Some quit asking and just bought them all. Not speaking about anyone in particular... ahem. Errors in many of the orders were made and it had fans pulling their hair and letting out their frustration on the poor Sébastien. Thankfully things were fixed and hormones were calm again.

Simple Plan is a rock band that comes from good Ole' Montreal Canada. They sold over 7 million records and won the hearts of many fans. Some of those fans can't help but ask "Why do a solo project?" Well, why not? Sébastien Lefebvre has a lot more to offer then back up vocals and great guitar riffs. "You are here" is a step away... no... more like a jump away from a typical Simple Plan record. He pulls you away from your own reality and brings you into his own world. The soft acoustics, the soft vocals and deep lyrics have you asking again. Who The f^%$ is Sebastien?

So, I got the CD on my iTunes and I tried to hold back my excitement. What was I really expecting....something big and powerful? No, I was expecting him and that was what I got.

The album has a mix of different stories that want to be told. They are backed up by charming guitars, melodica, piano and other unique sounds. It's a feel good record that will you have you snapping your fingers and singing along to the fun and upbeat 'Goodnight' or thinking about somebody you love when hearing 'I fall for you'. No doubt can you relate to many of these songs.

My favorite song on the EP is "La Nouvelle Vie". In English it means "The New Life". Apart it being a both French and English song, the chorus will have you singing along as soon as you know the lyrics. I think for Sébastien, this was a perfect step away from his typical roll in the band and having his own identity. His vocals are beautiful, his music is charming and this EP will not disappoint. At least to those who know what good music is and that aren't expecting anything, but something real.
