Rocky Loves Emily - American Dream

"American Dream", the Tooth & Nail 2010 debut from Rocky Loves Emily is the first I had ever heard of the Detroit rock band, and I was not disappointed!

The first track "American Dream" really sets the tone for the record with a poppy, catchy melody that you just can't help sing along with and rock out to. "Clueless" the second track follows well, keeping up the high-energy and fun feeling to it. This is definitely music to keep you in a good cheery mood, and since tomorrow I have to give my apartment a deep clean I'm going to need something to bop around the apartment to and keep my spirits up, and this album is perfect for it!

The third track "Name of the Game" is reminiscent of The Maine, in all the best ways, while the fourth track "See Her Again" drops it down south with a little bit of a country music twang, which fits the song just right. The final track "There's A Word For You" wraps the album up nicely, with a old school throwback to The Spice Girls which made my roommate and I laugh out loud while we rocked out.

It's tough for a band to come to the table with something that nobody has ever heard before, and although this record is reminiscent of many of the pop rock bands in the scene, the merits of all of the songs stand by themselves and speak volumes. Sure, all of the songs may be cliche little songs about girls, but they're catchy and fun and there is nothing wrong with that! I only wish that there were more songs to dance around to, but we'll have to keep Rocky Loves Emily in our sights and wait anxiously for more!
