Punk's Not Dead
![]() In true DIY spirit of Punk Rock, director Susan Dynner put together more than your ordinary tribute documentary. Starting with the birth of Punk and taking you era-by-era and the evolution of the scene, her movie "Punk's Not Dead" talks to your favourite punk bands as they weigh in with interviews, home movies, live performances and input on compelling arguments from all sides of everything Punk Rock. This movie highlights some of the biggest names in Punk, some of the most underground names, and even some bands that have a hometown following of fifteen that play on Wednesdays at The Drunk Tank. Bands like Pennywise, The Ataris, NOFX, The Offspring, The Casualties, Subhumans, The Voids, Green Day, The Breifs, The International Noise Machine, Anti-Flag, GBH, Stiff Little Fingers, Social Distortion, X, The Business, 999, Texas Terii Bomb, U.K. Subs, The Adverts, The Damned, The Adicts, Dead Kennedys, Anti-Nowhere League, Good Charlotte, The Used, Fugazi, My Chemical Romance, Sum 41, Sham 69 and a crapload more take on both sides of arguments like the villainization of Punks, the Punk Renaissance, the '91 Explosion, Hot Topic, Globalization, Major Labels, Pop-Punk, Warped Tour, and all other Punk based debate topics. My favourite thing about this movie is that it isn't centralized around one opinion. You have Brian Barnes of U.K. Subs talking about Good Charlotte or Dan Gratziani of The Adicts discussing the '91 explosion of Nirvana, Rancid, Green Day and The Offspring. Both sides are adequately discussed and given fair and even representation. But in the end, when it all comes down: who the f*ck cares? It's MUSIC. Whether you listen to The Sex Pistols, The Adicts, NOFX or Good Charlotte, My Chemical Romance, U.K. Subs or your brother's band that plays in the garage once a week... it doesn't matter, and that's the spirit that Punk's Not Dead encourages and encompasses. For any fan of Punk Rock music, or anyone even curious about the genre, this is a must-see movie for you. Learn the roots of the scene, learn the ins and outs from the bands perspectives, see live concert footage and hear the ideals behind the bands, and I guarantee it will introduce you to new and amazing Punk bands that you've never heard of before. "There's never been a Punk revival, because Punk's never been away." Punk's Not Dead. Do it.
