Comings out of Oakland, California (Which, if you didn't know is Earth's capital) come the Phenomenauts, a band which rolls up its sound nicely with elements of Rock 'n Roll, Pop, Punk, Surf Rock, Rockabilly and New Wave, effectively calling their sound... "Rocket Roll".

Focused on the progression of science, this band comes to us on a mission, and nothing will bar their way. I first heard of The Phenomenauts in 2003 when, get this, the band snuck onto Warped Tour. Their shows are theatric and fun with lots of gadgets and fun-filled antics.

I got the chance to talk with commander =Angel Nova= of the band and discuss the jumping off point for the band, their influences, and the bands mission!

For our readers who don't know you, Roll call! Who are you and what do you do for the band?

How did The Phenomenauts form? What was the starting point?

In the amazing year 2,000 We realized the world was not as technologically advanced as we had hoped so we formed to remedy that.

For people who have never seen you play, how would you describe your sound and live show?

It is an interactive explosive show that is fun to watch, even if you don't like the music. The music is a combination of New Wave, Rockabilly, and late seventies Punk Rock.

What does the future have in store for you as a band? What can we expect to hear from you?

Good songs that further our Science Expanding agenda and more and interesting performers. A great time.

What are your major influences when writing your music?

What ever we are into at the time, One Man Army, The Hives, Devo, The Briefs, The Stray Cats, The Damned, The Buzzcocks, The Toy Dols...

What has been your best moment as a band to date?

When The Teenage Harlets dressed up as us and called them selfs The Phenomanuts and made fun of a bunch of our songs.

Do any of you have any pre or post show rituals?

We get set up and get dressed before the show, and we drink beer and kiss beautiful women after.

What is your favourite Phenomenauts song to perform live? What gets the best reaction?

I'm not sure. Earth is the best, or Phenomenator, or Mission.

What is your favourite thing about your fans? Any cool fan stories?

When our fans make their own outfits or make us paintings and stuff like that. we love that. There are so many neat pictures hanging in The Command Center that fans have made..

Do you have any funny little quirks that you're cool with sharing? Special talents or anything like that?

Not really, =Jimmy Boom= is really good at a yoyo and =Angel Nova= can play a ukulele and an accordion.

The Sound Faction is make up of six staff members who are random at best, love to laugh and make others laugh. We try to ask all of our interviewees five random questions at the end, so here goes.

If you could be the champion of anything, what would it be? (If you say "the world" we all start laughing hysterically, just so you know.)

I would want to be the champion of bringing Science to the world. If everyone only believed in Science, there would be a lot less conflict. People who believe in Science Don't blow them selfs up or shoot doctors or things of that nature.

Which is worse: Cheeto fingers, or juice mustaches?

Cheeto fingers, because what the hell is that stuff?

If you could be any old-school rock god, who would you be, and how would you abuse the power?

I would be =JoeBot=, oh, and this is =Angel Nova= and I would sleep with many beautiful women.

If you were a scented candle, what would you smell like?

New Spaceship.

Who smells the worst in the band and how often do you need to spray them down with febreeze?

All Phenomenauts smell like victory at all times. No spay is necessary.
