BAND OF THE MONTH: ONE SECOND 2 LATE
![]() Oh! Oh! It's my turn again! Yay! It has been SO long since I've gotten to do this! (Er... I mean, pick the band, not write a-... eh, you get it.) But yes! I am going to be going with Newcastle ON band, One Second 2 Late this month girls, so get ready to listen to some pretty bomb music! The band first came to my attention when a friend of ours at Sony decided to send me a LOT of CDs. I was sorting through them, and came across the One Second 2 Late CD and was endeared to it because of the little bomb man on the front cover. I looked over it, looked over the lyrics, and decided I'd give it a go, and popped it in for a listen. To say I was impressed would be an understatement. ![]() One Second 2 Late's album cover The bands quick, aggressive style quickly struck a chord in me, and before I knew it, I had made my way through the entire CD. A few weeks later, a friend of ours who works with the band offered us an interview, and I jumped on it. The bands debut album, World Time Bomb, was released in August of 2008, and they've quickly gained a very loyal following, myself included. They put on a phenomenal, energy packed live show that matches the tone of their music perfectly. As I said when I was lucky enough to get the chance with Rob, their songs have the ability to jump genres, but hold the cohesiveness of the band together, which is something that always impresses me. If you look at songs like Fear of a Nation, and Black Sea Bingo you can definitely hear what I'm talking about. "I think what inspires us is that we all have a lot of influences and we all want to create music that we want to listen to." Says Henderson."So if we want a song that kind of sounds like a Pink Floyd song, something for us to kind of relax to, or maybe experiment with new things, then we'll just go for that, and start writing." Honestly, One Second 2 Late is one of the best new bands I've stumbled across in the last few months. I can always find one of their songs that I want to listen to at any given time, and that is an impressive feat. If you ever see them playing in your area, be it on their own, or opening for another band, you should definitely go check them out. Their live show will blow you away! ![]() Wow, I can't believe it's August already. The summers always seem to fly by. Time for another band of the month and this month we have a really good band coming your way. One Second 2 Late! Recently (okay not THAT recently) I got to see this guys live when Manda suprised us with tickets to a show. I have to admit at first I was kind of unsure about this band. I had never really heard anything from them before and usually before I see a band live I like to hear at least a couple tracks from them. Though I did find myself greatly enjoying the show they put on and the energy that they generated from the stage and injected right into the crowd. Their music has a no holds attitude. They aren't afraid to talk about any sort of subject matter, and you can hear it in their songs. This Ontario band is for sure one that you should take a chance on. They also toured with Anti-Flag last year, amazing right? This band is going places and will for sure make a name for themselves (though I think they already have). If you get a chance and they are playing near you, I suggest that you go check them out STAT! I think you all should head over to their MySpace and check out the song Hard Defined and Fear Of A Nation, it is by far two of my favorites. Try to face this fear of a nation Spreading lies inside your head Can't you see what's right in front of you Wake up consumer generation Point the finger at yourself Realize it's you - Fear Of A Nation ![]() Before I start discussing the awesomeness that is One Second 2 Late, can I just comment on the massive amount of talent coming out of Canada? Like, seriously, I think in a few years we'll be talking about the "Canada Sound" or something like that. Anyways, back to this month's band, One Second 2 Late. They are just amazing, and I agree with Caity that they sound like aggressive Jeremiah Freed. I only got to listen to their Myspace songs, and I love them all, especially "Hard Defined" and "Lady P." It's hard for me to describe what I'm hearing, other than the amazing lyrics, but I love it all. Seriously, you Canadians are lucky to have such awesome music. Take advantage of it, and start with One Second 2 Late. They have an August show in Ontario, check out their myspace for more details. If you have the time, definitely check them out. ![]() When Manda announced this month's featured band and sent us all the links, I got an overwhelming feeling that I had heard One Second 2 Late somewhere, but I couldn't land my finger on where, or perhaps my brain was just sleep exhausted. The first thought I had was "maybe I saw them on a MySpace crawl and passed them up" but the moment I clicked on the link to their MySpace and their song "Hard Defined" started playing there is no way that's what happened. I would NOT pass this band up, they are freakin' amazing! I listened to the myspace songs, and I am hooked, they have awesome lyrics, catchy melodies, and an edge to them that reminds me of if Jeremiah Freed ever got aggressive. Either way, definitely check out One Second 2 Late, and I'm ultimately jealous that the Toronto staff members got to see them live, because I can imagine that they would put on a phenomenal show. Oh yeah... I also remembered why I have heard of One Second 2 Late before... Check out the interview that Manda did with them here: Manda Vs. One Second 2 Late! ![]() In the introduction to Manda's interview with One Second 2 Last she says how the first time she heard them she was "impressed with their ability to jump from sound to sound while still sounding like the same band." I have to say I agree in full with Manda. Unfortunately I have only heard the songs on their myspace and one other song that is not up, but it's still clear to see that they are able to try new things with their sound and it works really well for them. The first time I ever heard them was when Manda took Natty and Myself to a show they were playing at and I remember really enjoying their set. We danced and had a rather awesome time. I think they were the band where Manda admitted to me that she in facts believes in clapping, which we all should! I am currently on their myspace and I would strongly suggest checking it out. Listen to 'Fear Of A Nation' I think that will be my myspace pick for One Second 2 Late. It's actually really hard for me to pick one for this band. No joke, I am sitting here going back and forth trying to decide. I just really enjoy them all! How about you just listen to them all? Awesome, I'm glad we could come to an agreement!! LINKS
