OH NO FIASCO - OH NO FIASCO
![]() Here's the truth of the matter, I am not a big fan of dance-pop music. Now don't take this the wrong way, but I am even LESS of a fan of female-vocalist dance-pop, I generally find it just too piercing to listen to. That being said, Oh No Fiasco has made me take a second glance at the genre! Now I'm not saying I'm going to go and get my Ke$ha on, but Oh No Fiasco has breathed life into a genre that had formerly been murdered and buried somewhere in a remote part of the desert. I am extremely picky about female vocalists (call it a double standard, but it is what it is), but Oh No Fiasco vocalist Lindsey Stamey is fantastic! Her voice is gritty and textural when she is powering through her upper register and rocking out, but when she takes it down a notch her voice is beautifully soulful and filled with emotion. The self-titled debut album is a fantastic introduction to Oh No Fiasco, it's high paced but not overwhelmingly so, and slows it down in all the right spots. Highlight tracks for me were track two Where You Used To be, a song that absolutely commands you to get up and shake it, track three I Have To Know which illustrates the band's slower and more melodic side, and track six Fly Me To The Moon, which is such a fun song to belt out into a hairbrush and dance around your room like a cornball to. My least favorite song was track four Clarity, it's certainly not a bad song at all, I enjoyed it, in fact. But it didn't stir anything with me like all of the rest of the tracks did. When we write these reviews, often times we find it difficult to be 100% objective, especially when it comes to genres or bands that we have strong opinions of. I can admit that going into this review I had a pre-disposed irritation towards dance-pop (or dance-rock, whatever you call it). I'm whole heartedly glad that we were sent Oh No Fiasco to review, it absolutely reminded me that a genre does not define a band. I totally recommend that you give Oh No Fiasco a try, even if you think it might not be your thing, you never know what will surprise you! BACK
