Caity vs. The Mayors of Sexytown
Sometimes you're on MySpace and you're looking for new bands and you come across a band with a name so irresistable that you can't just NOT click on it and see what the hell it's about. For me that band was San Diego based Ska band The Mayors of Sexytown. I went to their Myspace page expecting to roll my eyes, laugh a little and move on to another band, but what happened instead was 30 minutes of poking around the Myspace and grooving to catchy ska tunes! So without further adeiu, I formally present to you: The Mayors of Sexytown! We like to start off all of our interviews with a roll call, so could you introduce yourselves and tell us what you do?
Shane "Shane Gocke" Gocke-Guitar/Bass Bob "boB" Hamilton-Guitar /Bass/ Vox Derek "the recoverer" Altringer Bass/ Trumphat Jeremy "Bluesman McGee" Garcia-Drum and sticks/ Vox BigTiny "Tony" Juarez-TROMBONE So tell us, how were you able to become Mayors of Sexytown? You know we just had a really good campaign! We talked, we cried, we cheered, we kissed a lot of behbehs babies and we stayed true to our word... ahh we made some promises like
Hawaiian punch in the drinking fountains and unlimted time on the monkey bars, and the people voted for us. I guess its just as easy as lying! We all know that Ska music is a mashup of some of the best genre's of music, what was it about Ska that appealed to you to form the band? It's really happy, fun, energetic, and it rhymes with pah. Your cover of Biz Markie's "Just A Friend" is phenomenal (and in fact hands down the best cover of that song I have ever heard), but when you're not covering hilariously cheesy songs, what are your major influences when writing your songs? First off, thank you vurry vurry mooch, Second off we are influenced in our own daily lives and random shennanigans we get ourselves into. What's been your best moment as a band so far? We're gunna have to say our first (and only time so far) we played out of San Diego it was in the great town of Newhall the people up there welcomed us with open arms and it was probably the funnest show we have ever played! The California ska community is rad as hell, and my favorite part of that scene are some of the smaller and stranger venues that bands find themselves playing. What has been your favourite venue that you've played in? Well ahh were gunna have to go with Soma for a smaller band like us playing there is like (get ready for a simile by jeremy) "Its as if your a giant running through a forrest but from his perspective its like a meadow and the air is crisp." so it was great. What do you do to pump yourselves up for the show? Any pre or post show rituals? Its normally pretty stressfull and our pre show rituals include: Eating some great food, Hugging, working on puzzels together and having to drive back to shanes house from the venue to get the stuff we forgot i.e. guitars, amps, cords, love, our dignity and big tiny, ya. Could you describe your live show for our readers who have never seen you play? Its really colorful, theres alot of movement it really holds the young crowds attention. umm ya we like to have alot of fun while we play and hopefully people that watch have fun too and not just think we are making fools of ourselves. amen. Do you have an ultimate goal for your music? Any things that you know you want to accomplish with it? Well i think our main goal right now is finishing our first CD (compact disc) and hopefully go on like a tour! (TO! anyone is reading and wants TEH Mayors of SexyTOWN to come to your city, town and/or province we accept all challengers!) What should we expect to see in the future of The Mayors of SexyTown? Well a cd and a tour thats are goals ^ and hopefully you will see us in the future playing a show for you and you buying our stuff! The staff of The Sound Faction is comprised of six incredibly random girls whose primary goal is to just have fun. We like to end our interviews with five totally random questions to end on a light note, do you think you can handle it? To be honest theses 5 questions may....
If you could be any Old School rock-god for a day, who would you be and how would you abuse the power? Brett Michaels or Flava flave so we can have our own show. We would abuse the power by making out with New York! ya!
What is a fashion trend (male or female) that confuses you, and why? I dont get why people in the army wear boots i dont get why wouldnt they wear a fly pair of nikes What girly movie do you secretly love? One Time at Shanes house at like 10pm we all laid on his couch and watched the Note Book.................if your a bird im a bird If you could be the Champion of Anything, what would it be and why? The Champion of the Science fair cus we make really good potato clocks and i just really want a blue ribbon What is your favourite and least favourite dance craze? We are in a dance crew so we like doing dance crew moves you know some times we pop it sometimes we lock it BUT WE NEVER EVER DROP IT! and our least favorite is the Pop lock and drop it. And finally, here is your shameless self-promo spot, anything you think we should know about The Mayors of SexyTown, or anything you want to add? First offs thank you. and second off add us on myspace (www.myspace.com/themayorsofsexytown) and we can chat. we have a visitors map and you can like see youself. so thats cool. we got a new demo on the way.
