Caity vs. Luna Mortis
When I randomly stumbled across the Luna Mortis myspace, I was taken by pounding drums, deep guitar licks, and haunting female vocals. I was into it, so I looked into it, and scored an interview with guitarist Cory Scheider to ask about the band and the sound! We'll start off with roll call! Who are you, and what do you do for the band? I am Cory and I play guitar for Luna Mortis For people who have never seen you play, how would you describe your sound and live show? Our live show is where the band shines. We all love to be onstage and we deliver our best possible live show every night. After seeing us at a live show you will really appreciate the band. What does the future have in store for you as a band? What can we expect to hear from you? We will be in the studio to finish our debut Century Media album in September. The album should be released in early 2009. And after that we should be touring constantly. What has been your best moment as a band to date? We have had so many experiences so far. I think each of us have our own favorite moments. My favorite moments are being on the road with the band. Every show is a highlight to me. And it was also really cool to go to New York and hang out with Monte Conner at the Road Runner records office. What are your major influences when writing your music, and what's the one influence that people are surprised to hear about? Well, I have not written anything for the band. But when I write music for other things my influences are heavily rooted in thrash metal. I just love the energy of the old 80's thrash bands like Testament, Death Angel, stuff like that. At some point though everything becomes an influence. I could hear a pop song on the radio and get a cool idea for a guitar line or something. Out of any song in the world, what one do you most wish you had written? That is really hard to answer. I'll go with Welcome to the Jungle by Guns N Roses. But if you ask me next week I'm sure I would have a different answer. You're based out of Wisconsin, how is the Metal scene out there, and have you found it particularly hard to crack? There are some really great bands out here but unfortunately the scene is pretty small. It is hard to consistently get large numbers of people to the shows. We have had a lot of success in Madison, our home town. We play this club called the Annex and we have had great turn outs there. But it is not easy to get a band going in this area. You have to work hard and branch out of the area a little bit to get your name out there. Do any of you have any pre or post show rituals? None of us really have any rituals. Pre show usually consists of all of us warming up and maybe having a few drinks. And post show we have a few more drinks. Do you have any funny little quirks that you're cool with sharing? Special talents or anything like that? I honestly can't think of anything. There is probably something that I am not thinking of though.
What is your favorite Luna Mortis song or lyric, and why? My favorite songs so far are Fountain of Youth and Reformation. Fountain is just really fun to play live and Reformation is an ass kicker live. Some of the new stuff we have coming is going to be great as well. The Sound Faction is make up of five girls (...and Ed) who are random at best, love to laugh and make others laugh. We try to ask all of our interviewees five random questions at the end, so here goes. Angus Young. When you see AC/DC live there is so much energy and it looks like everyone in that band has so much fun onstage. Like that is what they were born to do. I love to watch Angus onstage. He's got all the coolest "Rock God" moves! Which is worse: Cheeto fingers, or juice mustaches? Cheeto fingers for sure. I hate having that stuff all over my hands! If you could have any non-standard (re: flying, x-ray vision... comic book stuff) superpower, what would it be? This is a hard question being a comic book fan. Probably the coolest super power is mind control. Like Professor X in the comic book X-Men. If you could be the champion of anything, what would it be? (If you say "the world" we all start laughing hysterically, just so you know.) Champion of ECW wrestling back when it was badass Who smells the worst in the band and how often do you need to spray them down with febreeze? After shows we all smell pretty bad! I need to get some febreeze before we get on the road. Thanks for reminding me. Thanks so much for talking with us: here's your shameless self-promo spot! Anything you'd like to add about the music, yourself, or anything at all? Check us out on our myspace page. And we hope to see all our fans soon. Stay tuned, there is a lot more to come from Luna Morits! Thank you again to Cory for taking the time out to talk to us! Keep an eye out for Luna Mortis, and in the meantime, check out the band's MySpace Page!
