Manda vs. Level 27 Clothing

Here at Sound Faction, we've interviewed a fair number of people by now, and yes, the majority have been musicians, but today, we're taking a step off of our normally beaten path and talking to Steve Sievers from Level 27 Clothing. I've been a fan of Level 27 Clothing for a few years now, and have proudly whored out more than one rockin' piece of clothing or another (My personal favourite of the moment is a bandanna I got a year or so back...)

Anyway, I got to talk to Steve about how Level 27 came about and... how he can't live without Milk? ...Yeah, awesome, haha!

Roll call! Who are you, and what do you do?

My Name is Steve Sievers and I co-own Level 27 Clothing.

For our readers who don't know, what is Level 27?

Level 27 Clothing is Billy Martin and I's line. Billy does all the artwork for Level 27 Clothing.

What exactly inspired the name Level 27?

Our favorite number is 27 and we are both big gammers. In video games, you go through different levels. Level 27 was born.

(For lack of better terminology haha), What's Level 27's mission statement?

Level 27 Clothing is wearable art.

How did Level 27 begin?

Back in 2001 we wanted to do something with Billy's artwork. Billy was doing all the artwork for GC merch but couldn't put monsters, creatures, etc on it. It started out as just a project for us to wear. But then so many people were asking if they could get some "wearable art" so the project turned into a company.

What inspires the designs?

We love cartoons and spooky stuff. Just combined the two.

What is your demographic? Who do you think would like your stuff?

Anyone that is into cartoons, comics, horror movies, music, video gamers, etc. The art crowd.

What's your personal favourite Level 27 item?

Oh thats hard cause I love them all. I would say now its the Creature Feature Tee Shirt.

What new content can we look forward to seeing?

We got a great Fall line in the works. Its gonna include some new print jobs we have never done before. Very exciting artwork on them!

Do you have any advice for people who want to start there own clothing line?

Do artwork that you love, not something that you think is trendy at the moment.

If you could add anything on top of just clothing to Level 27's content (a record label, publishing, hell, production company even), what would it be? Or would you even try to expand from just clothing?

Well besides Level 27 Clothing. I am working on a cartoon show I created called Supa Pirate Booty Hunt. I also do the voice of Daniel the Turtle in the show. I'm trying to get it on TV. You can help, by viewing it on youtube. Every view on youtube helps get it on TV. Please check it out and tell people about it. Our website is www.supapiratebootyhunt.com

The Sound Faction is make up of five girls (...and Ed) who are random at best, love to laugh and make others laugh. We try to ask all of our interviewees five random questions at the end, so here goes.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you be and why?

I would be Daniel the Turtle cause he rocks! Wait, I do play him in Supa Pirate Booty Hunt.

Leg Warmers: Functional piece of clothing, or bad fad?

Bad Fad

Video games! Preferred system, game, and why?

Thats hard cause I love them all, but I will go with Xbox cause I love playing with people online.

What's the one thing you couldn't live without?

Milk. LOL I know.

If you could have any non-standard (re: flying, x-ray vision... comic book stuff) superpower, what would it be?

Oh thats hard. I like Spiderman's powers a lot, but you can't go wrong with flying powers. Then I can travel a lot more.

Thank you again to Steve for taking time out of his schedule to talk to us about Level 27! And if you haven't checked out the clothing yet, what the hell?! Do yourself a favour and check it out here.
