Album Review: Adam Lambert - For Your Entertainment
![]() ![]() Not too long ago Lambert released his first album, For Your Entertainment. We were promised it was going to be a treat to the ears and the senses and he wasn’t wrong in the least. The album is a mix-up of everything from ballads to dance floor anthems and everything in between. The range on this album has a little something for everyone to enjoy and be able to delve into. The title track on the album, For Your Entertainment (FYE), is raunchy and full of sexual references. Therefore more aimed to the mature audience that I am sure can handle the lyrics more so. Remember he isn’t on American Idol anymore, and isn’t told which songs he has to sing, these songs are a true representation of each and every side of Lambert. FYE makes you want to get up on your feet and reminds me of when Spears released I’m A Slave For You. I find myself every time I hear this song wanting to be in the middle of a crowded dance floor in a club, and I bet if I closed my eyes I could indeed find myself standing there and going all out. Soaked, another fantastic track, sounds like it could be a part of a Broadway musical, it has a strong forceful opening that then melts into graceful lyrics. The whole song as excellent ride and falls that work fantastic in painting a picture of a story and bring you along for the ride. It makes you sort of envision Lambert standing in the middle of a stage in New York and belting it out while all the supporting actors walk around behind him. Don’t, however, ask me which one it would fit into or so forth, I am sure if you listen to the song you can find your own little storyline to go along with it. Then you have the song Broken Open, which has an opening which is very reminiscent of when he sang Mad World on Idol. This song could have been made into a beautiful ballad with piano playing in the background; however Lambert took a different approach and added in some techno feeling sounds to float around. It adds beautifully to the song and gives me a whole different perspective on the power ballad that I didn’t really have before. Then you have the track Music Again, which reminds in so many ways of Queen (and no I’m not even joking and you can be offended if you want). This song is beautiful on so many levels, mostly because of the fact that it’s a song about finding that someone who makes you want to listen to music again, and brings all that beauty back into your life. I can see this song being a staple in his live show and being part of bringing the house down. If I Had You is along the same lines as music again, another up-tempo song that will keep you on your feet and wanting to keep going. I can see this song being a club anthem. Have any of you seen the movie 2012 yet? Well if so you might remember the song Time For Miracles, a beautiful power ballad that can and will probably entrance you, about not giving up. This song has a powerful meaning and story behind it, which fits with the movie on many levels, and you can also say that it is one of the three singles that Lambert has floating around the music scene at the moment, which shows his diversity and range. Whatya Want From Me, the single he has been singing on all the talk shows as he promotes his album, is an up-tempo ballad that breaks away from FYE and shows, maybe the softer side of Lambert. This song is for sure a radio hit and has lyrics that anyone can relate to on many levels, especially with the line ‘I’m a freak, but thanks for loving me, you’re doing it perfectly’. How many of us out there have thought of ourselves as a freak? And that no one would care for us or love us the way you needed? Maybe that isn’t the message from this song, but that is what I will take from that one line. I think Lambert’s album offers a little bit of something for everyone out there. From the dance songs (FYE, Strut, Music Again, If I Had You, Sure Fire Winners, Pick U Up), to the mid range songs (Soaked, Sleepwalked, Whatya Want From Me) and the ballads that will make you swoon (Broken Open, Time For Miracles, Aftermath, A Loaded Smile). The album shows that he has a range and talent that will work well for what we can only hope is years to come. Despite the controversy that surrounded his first televised performance and the fallout that ensued, I believe Lambert will have a long and fruitful career like his Alum Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. If you haven’t yet I suggest you go out and pick up For Your Entertainment pop in your CD player or on your iPod and enjoy!.
