BAND OF THE MONTH: IN FEAR AND FAITH
![]() For the holiday month of December I am proud to bring to you In Fear and Faith. Doing the same as I did for my last BoTM pick, the information on the band will in no way be put in my own words. But I don’t think it really matters, right? Unless I go in some bogus direction and say, “In Fear and Faith formed when an Ewok and the Glo Worm toy from the 1980’s decided to grow a band in a butter tub,” everything is going to say the same thing, right? (For the record, I love both Ewoks and the Glo Worm toy... I have a Glo Worm and the Ewoks: Battle for Endor movie! ...Honestly not a big fan of butter though.) In Fear and Faith – let’s do this! In Fear and Faith is a post-hardcore band from San Diego, California that consists of six members. Scott Barnes providing clean vocals, Tyler McElhaney on bass, Mehdi Niroomand on drums, Ramin Niroomand on lead guitar and keyboards and Noah Slifka on rhythm guitar. InFAF is curretnly signed to Rise records and has two full length albums (both of which I have and are incredible.) Your World On Fire (Jan 2009... also, says here it was released on January 6th... fun fact: That’s my birthday!) and Imperial (June 2010.) They have had the opportunity to tour with some pretty amazing bands and are currently on tour (only until Decemeber 19th, so go now!) with Attack Attack! Emmure, Pierce The Veil and Of Mice And Men. I found In Fear and Faith October 9, 2009. I remember everything about that day because it was the day before one of the worst days my family has ever seen. I went in search of loud music because I was sick of the mellow stuff I had been surrounding myself with. Not that I don’t like it I just needed something new. The first song I heard was “The Road To Hell Is Paved With Good Intentions.” I was hooked. Everything about that song spoke to me so I immediately bought Your World On Fire. I have yet to see them live (even though they were a 10 minute bus ride away from me in October) but it’s on my list of things to do. I (obviously!) recommend In Fear and Faith. To everyone. Always. So go. Now. Listen. “You say you need a greater purpose. I say you need to see what’s coming.” “I am who I am, is that so hard? To realize that we are who we are” oh also, they have a cover of “Gangstas Paradise.” So.much.win. ![]() ![]() ![]() It's December, which means a new band! Before introduced as this month's band, I had not heard of In Fear and Faith before. However, being open to new things, I immediately opened up their myspace, and had a listen. My first reaction was "holy crap, this is not for me," because I listened to "Bones," and the first few seconds were just screaming. Just like some people don't like Justin Bieber, I don't like screaming in my music for extended periods of time. However, after I fought to not close out myspace and go back to my marathon new MCR listen, I found that In Fear and Faith do not scream, they have some awesome melodies. So awesome, in fact, that I would forget that the lead singer had a tendency to scream, and think "hey, this is pretty good!" Examples of these songs are "The Road to Hell is Paved with Good Intentions," "Your World on Fire," and "The Solitary Life." So, while In Fear and Faith is not completely for me, I think they are an awesome band for those who enjoy a bit of screaming with their rock. If they toned down the screaming a tad, I could really enjoy them! And if you're a screamo or hardcore fan, they are currently touring the US, so make sure to check out their myspace page for dates. ![]() So Jen has been talking about In Fear and Faith for a very long time. For some reason, I've been lazy and haven't checked them out until now, and I kind of want to kick myself for it. They have a sound that I could most definitely get into. Unfortunately, because MySpace sucks majority, as I was clicking through to listen to more of their stuff, it crashed and refuses to let me hear any songs other than a 30 second clip of "Bones" and "Counselor", but I think it's enough for me to say this: Jen? Can you send me some of their music for Christmas? Pleeeeeease? ![]() The festive month is upon us and here we are with a new Band of the Month to introduce you to! I can still remember the day that Jen introduced me to this band, if i`m not mistaken it was with their cover of Gangsta`s Paradise. I had heard of the band name floating around but I had never actually sat down and listend to them beforehand. The music is really well written and amazing to sit down and listen to. Though their is some screaming (which I enjoy), which might not be for everyone, I think you have to give it a chance because their music will grab you and pull you in. I would greatly enjoy to see them perform live, I would love to see what they could do with these songs on stage and how they interact with their audience. They are currently on tour in the US untill December 19 and I think if you are a fan of Metal or Screamo music you should try and make it out to the show (the myspace link is at the bottom where you can check out the exact dates). If you haven`t EVER listend to the band, I suggest you click on that myspace link and head over and listen to the tracks that are posted on their myspace. Though, some are only samples, I believe it will give you a feel for the band and what they are all about. If you feel adventerous, you could also head over to itunes and make a purchase of a couple songs. The ones that I would suggest is Bones, The End and The Road To Hell Is Paved With Good Intentions. Overall, this band has made an impression on me and they are currently on the listening rotation on my itunes and have been for a while. ![]() My oh my did December creep up on us! This year, we're starting the holiday season with In Fear and Faith (Thank you Jen!!)! I love love In Fear and Faith, in fact, before I found out that they were the band of the month for this month, I was listening to them in my car while driving to pick up my mom from work. (Who, by the way, liked it!) Hardcore music isn't for everyone, but even if you've been one of those adamant "sing, don't scream" folks, give IFAF a try, because they just might surprise you! In Fear and Faith have the classic post-hardcore sound to them, but still manage to make every song seem so innovative and revolutionary, whether it's adding sweet melodies to the background or chorus, or soft and haunting piano melodies behind the loud, in-your-face aggressive screaming. Some of my personal favorites include Bones, The Solitary Life, and Live Love Die, so head over to their MySpace page, check them out, and see what you think! LINKS
