Manda vs. I Am Silhouette
We did a little photo shoot for some SF merch that we're going to be promoting pretty soon, and had some fantastic models come out and work with us. One of these models was a young man named Chris. Now, it's two months later, and I'm checking out another bands MySpace, and I see a comment by none other than the same Chris who came out to work with us, telling people to check out his cover of Wonderwall by Oasis! I check out his profile and realize that he's got more than just covers, and that he's, well, really good! I message him and ask not only why he didn't tell us he was a musician, but to see if he would be willing to talk to us. Well, he said yes, and here it is! For our readers who don't know who you are, roll call! Can you please introduce yourself and tell us what you do? Um well I'm Chris. I play guitar and I go by the musician alias of I Am Silhouette. Where are you from, and how does the music scene treat you there? Funny question, cuz I'm from a really heavily hip hop influenced area in Chicago and around the suburban areas. Well at least that's what almost everyone listens to. I think I'm an oddball to them. What is it that inspires you to create music? One word. Three numbers. Blink 182. Without them, I wouldn't have the guts to do it. On your MySpace you say that you'll be recording a demo in the near future. What can we look forward to hearing? Well basically, all the songs that are available to hear on the page and a few new ones I'm in the process of finishing up. Oh! And a random acoustic cover of Lollipop by Lil Wayne! Bahaha What other artists are you inspired by? What do you take from that inspiration that applies to your music? Hmm well besides Blink, I really love Alkaline Trio and Killswitch Engage. Like Blink and Alkaline Trio, I just put myself out there, saying whatever I feel needs to be said. But yeah..I'm still trying to find a way to incorporate some Killswitch into my acoustic music, haha. What is it that inspires your lyrics, and is there one particular lyrics that means the most to you? In all seriousness, my lyric writing can spark from me being viciously dumped by a girl to me just stubbing my toe and all of them have what I like to refer to as "mirror meanings" My brain's weird like that. But I'd have to say the lyrics that mean the most to me are the ones for my song Stupid Fingers. I guess I was in the zone haha. On your YouTube page, you have a lot of cover songs that you've chosen to do. What is it that makes you choose to do a cover of a song? Well when I'm lazy and I have writers block, I listen to alot of music on my iPod and pick different stuff that I decide later on to do a cover of. Out of any song in the world, which one do you most wish you had written and why? Stockholm Syndrome by Blink 182 because it almost scares me how much I can relate to it. If you were in charge of the music industry what would be the first change you’d make? GUITAR PICKS FREE! haha oh and I'd create a band of super musicians to gather every unknown songwriter/ musician together to have a giant show broadcast across the world. It would be epic. What can we expect from you in the future? Videos...lots of videos. mostly of me being weird. and of course more tunes. I'm trying to save up for an automobile to possibly begin a mini tour in the summer. Here at The Sound Faction we are some of the most random girls you will ever meet, so we like to end our interviews with five random questions. Are you up for that? BRING IT ON! If you were a scented candle, what would you smell like? Lime. Cuz it's green. green is awesome. If you had to be stuck in an 80's movie, which one would it be and why? Weird Science. Kelly LeBrock was stunniiiiiiiing. What's your favourite dinosaur? Ohh maaan now this one's gonna be long, cuz I'm a HUGE dino-geek. Velociraptor is my number one favorite CARNIVORE because they're like modern day wolves but faster and more intelligent. They slightly tie up with Allosaurus and Pachycephalosaurus(sorry if no one can say that one) I really can't choose between those three as my MOST fave but they're the coolest in my book haha Video games: Preferred system and game, and why? Original Playstation: Crash Bandicoot because I was doing just fine with my poorly pixelated graphics until these new super expensive systems came out. Name one guilty pleasure of yours! I eat more gallons of ice cream than any human should and I never gain a pound. I kind of feel guilty because my mom and sisters yell at me in envy :] And here's your shameless self-promo spot: anything you'd like to add about yourselves, the music, or anything else? Haha sweeet. Ummm ... COME CHECK OUT THE MUSIC AND BEFRIEND ME BECAUSE I WANT YOUR EARS!...in a musical sense of course. COME SAY HI! We would like to thank Chris again for taking the time to talk to us. You should most definitely take the time to check out his MySpace, and his YouTube Page.
