Caity vs. Home for the Headlines
Once again, my cruise through MySpace Music was a fruitful venture! The moment I clicked on Home For The Headline's myspace, I was immediately taken with the energy they had in the music, the vocal strength and in love with the Happy Hardcore sound they had going on. Naturally I had to grab an interview with them, I mean... I'm on your side ya'll... I'm here to help you catch wind of these awesome bands! So here's what Home For The Headlines had to say, check them out! “We only have our hearts broken, we never break hearts.” For our readers who don’t know who you are, could you please introduce yourself and what you do for the band? Uhh, we’re all here right now! So ya... everyone is here. Andrew plays guitar and sing, Alex plays drums and screams when he feels like it, Nathan plays bass, Mikael plays guitar as well and Marc sings. How did Home for the Headlines come to be, and where did the name come from? Well we started off as just friends looking to start a band none of us knew how to play our instruments so we basically grew up playing simple punk songs really fast and really wrong! Eventually we started learning how to play and write together and we ended up doing a lot more than just punk covers! When the band first started, we called ourselves Bastard Odour... that quickly turned into Basket of Plastic, and we went under that name for a little while. As we went into grade 9 we decided to change it, so we basically locked ourselves in Alex's basement until we decided on a new one... Mikael, being the genius he is came up with Sweet Nightmare. And unfortunately that's what stuck for about 3 years. Eventually we grew out of that name and one of us came up with Home for the Headlines. To us it basically just means life and the memories you make with your friends. Your life as itself is a home and your memories are headlines of your life, and that’s pretty much it. It just took. What has been the biggest moment for the band? What has been the biggest challenge? Our biggest moment would probably have to be what’s happening right now, since August we’ve been recording our first EP: Cutting on Paper Plates with Plastic Forks and Knives. It’s a great experience for all of us, and it’s totally awesome! Two weekends ago, and then last weekend we put up two new songs from the EP and they received a great response, better than we’ve ever had! Biggest challenge would definitely be carrying Nathan's bass amp up and down stairs! Haha no just kidding. The toughest part about being in a band in general is making a name for yourself and getting people to hear you, and developing a fan base for sure! I know for us it was especially difficult during the name change because we had a good following under the name Sweet Nightmare and when we changed the name it was almost like we had to start from scratch, but we are doing a lot better than ever right now so we are all super excited! Your MySpace claims that you're the nicest guys in the world... give us a few examples! We only have our hearts broken, we never break hearts. Take us through your writing process, what inspires your lyrics? Well first we decide, “It’s time for a new song” then we the all irritate Andrew to start writing. He’ll give us an asshole response like, “I can’t f*ckin’ write songs on the spot!” Then we give him alone time while we watch the food network. After, Marc and Alex discuss life’s great meaning and write lyrics. Nathan plays bass. He’s cute. Is there a specific lyrics that means the most to you? “We all are searching, just keep searching.” Life is a journey and we’re all in this together. What kind of message do you try to convey with your music? Keep on keepin’ on. For those who haven't seen you play, how would you describe your live show? Energetic, intense and fun. Marc tells us he’s afraid for his life because we don’t pay attention to where we are swinging our guitars. Stage presence is something we take pride in. We love coming in and out with a bang. What is the scene like in Brampton? Have you found it difficult to break into? The scene in Brampton is like a roller coaster ride. What's your favourite part of this crazy industry? What keeps you passionate? The fans...and..uh, fans. And our moms. What can we expect to see from you in the future? Lots of fireworks. Lots and lots of fireworks. Here at the Sound Faction we are five of the most random people you will ever meet, so we like to end our interviews on a less serious note with five random questions. Are you up for that? I’m down. What was your favorite Halloween costume as a kid? Nathan: Blue Ranger Season 1. Billy. Mikael: Red Ranger Season 1. Jason. (He’s now a gay porn star.) Marc: Halloween is for the weak. Andrew: Vegeta from Dragon Ball Z. OVER 9000!!!!@!@1 Alex: I was Batman every Halloween. Btw, Mikael’s costume makes perfect sense. Who would you want to win a date with? Alex: Billy Mays. Andrew: Mikael’s sister. Marc: Counsellor Troi. Mikael: Judge Mathis. Nathan: Angelo Corsino If you could pass a law for the world, what would it be? Everyone has to wear an Emeril Lagasse shirt on Tuesdays. Forever. If you could have lunch with any fictional character who would it be and why? Alex: Team Rocket. Because they’re blasting off....again. Nathan: Bananas in pajamas. Because they’re coming down my stairs. Mikael: Alf. Because he eats cats, and I hate cats. Andrew: Megatron. Because he’s an asshole, and I’m an asshole. Marc: Cliff Huxtable. Isn’t it obvious? What girls fashion trend confuses you the most? The fact that they can fit in their purses. And here's your shameless self-promo spot: anything you'd like to add about yourselves, the music, or anything else? Check us out at www.myspace.com/homefortheheadlines! There are alot of cool things that will be happening in the New Year so stay updated and stay fresh! Thanks to Home For The Headlines for talking to us!
