Jen vs. Hasket
Okay so when I saw who was opening at the Teeter cd realse party, I went and checked out all their myspaces. Once. And then I was so busy up until the actual event that I didn’t get a chance to do it again. So the first band of the night was a band called Hasket. Okay so first thought. Shit these guys are good! Second thought, shit these guys are young!! They are so young and so dedicated and they absolutely love what they are doing and that is awesome. They have great songs and so much talent. And even though they aren’t really familiar with the Ninja Turtles, these guys are still awesome. So check out their myspace. And rock out. Do it…because we said so.

Mikey Reale: Hasket.
For our readers who don’t know who you are, could you please introduce yourself and what you do for the band?
Dillon: My name is Dillon, and I play Drums.
Ryley: I’m Ryley and I play Guitar.
Matt: I’m Matt and I play Bass.
Mikey: I’m Mikey and I play guitar and sometimes try to sing.
Joe: I’m Joe Farrugia, and I sing.
Ryley: I’m Ryley and I play Guitar.
Matt: I’m Matt and I play Bass.

Where are you guys from and how does the music scene treat you?
Mikey: Well originally these two (Points to Ryley and Joe) started off in Newmarket (Ontario) but as we’ve kinda grown as a band, LESS of us live in Newmarket. So now we are technically from Newmarket/Keswick. They (Ryley and Joe) started the band and got a drummer and we’ve had some member changes, but as of July this year we are a complete band and ready to move forward.
What made you decide to start a band?
Ryley: I actually play the guitar, and I had never met him (points to Joe) before, and I was talking to him on the phone and I was basically like “you should play bass in my band.”
Dillon: Just randomly on the phone?
Ryley: Pretty much! But then we picked him to sing because I decided I was too chicken to sing. And he did that and he’s just gone with it since then. And as lame as it is, Hasket is just a park at the end of my street!

What do you do to get pumped for a show?
All: (Laughs)
Mikey : There are many things that contribute to getting pumped for a show. Number one, Red Bull.
Joe: I actually had McDonalds today before the show!!
Mikey: Red Bull, and Monster energy drinks, McDonalds, Subway, Taco Bell, playing Super Smash Brothers Brawl and playing Pokemon all of that. (Laughs) There’s some nude fights once in a while.
Ryley: Yes, I enjoy running around naked before the show. (Laughs) Scare the fans.
Dillon: Wow. (laughs)

How do you guys feel about the set you just played?
Mikey: It was kinda stressful.
Joe: We’ve done better.
Mikey: There’s always some kind of problems before hand. But once you start playing that first note, you gotta pull everything together and from there its just kinda pull out your best cards and see how it goes. We seemed to do that.
Dillon: I played good!
All: (Laughs.)

Mikey: Thanks! We just kind of pull it together and then for half an hour we just play our asses off!
What’s your favorite song to play live and which one gets the best reaction from the crowd?
Joe: I’m gunna go with “Velocity,” our last song. It’s been one of our first, and oldest songs. That one started with Mikey and the band before Dillon and Matt came to be.

We played our first kinda, downtown show here at The Reverb, July 2007…2006. and we really didn’t, we were not practiced we didn’t really know what we were doing. We like, wrote that song, it was like, nine minutes long. We played it last and we’ve been playing it last ever since. So I guess yeah, that’s just our favorite song.

What was your favorite bath toy as a kid?
All: (Laughs)
Dillon: Rubber Ducky!
Joe: I had a Donald Duck in the shape of a boat.
Ryley: I had that too!
Joe: So I played with that. Usually my sister was in the tub with me. Its kinda weird but (laughs!) we shared that toy!
Mikey: I would just like to add that I had this weird shaped thing, I don’t even know if it was a kids toy, or adult, but you could squeeze water into it then squirt it. and I really enjoyed that.
Dillon: oh yeah, I had one of those.
Ryley: I had no toys, my parents hated me!
Matt: I basically had a big Lego Starship I pretended to fly around the bathtub and everything. It was a good time.

If you could have any super power what would it be, And why?
Mikey: There’s gotta be a couple. More realistically, and more practical I would like to fly because honestly you could get out of every situation and go anywhere you want. But honestly who doesn’t want X-Ray vision?! (All laugh) like come on!
Joe: a better name for that would be ‘Strip Vision.’

Joe: I’ve never heard of them.

Dillon: Coon Tails!!
