Rocky Loves Emily - American Dream
![]() ![]() Dear Good Charlotte; Welcome back to the game! Sincerely, Caity. This record is a huge relief from 2008's Good Morning Revivial. A huge huge huge relief. When I heard that Good Charlotte had a new record out, I instantly cringed a little, I wasn't positive if I could handle another over synthed record with hip dance beats. Thankfully my fears were eased when the band immediately gave a throwback to early millenium, and their early career. The album starts off strongly with "Let The Music Play" and "Silver Screen Romance". I instantly felt like a teenager again, going to one of my first concerts ever, waiting outside all day to go to my first Good Charlotte concert and singing Boys and Girls at the top of my lungs. The album isn't completely dated, however, the band does a great job of keeping the old sound that their early fans fell in love with them to, and the modern dance beats that newer fans were introduced to Good Charlotte with, it's a real crowd pleaser. Normally I wouldn't quote another review here, however, I couldn't say it any better than the review from Rock Sound written by Amy Bangs: "Musically, they've ditched their early material's urban (ish) influences, while maintaining the fun parts of pop-punk. So we're left with the Good Charlotte that brought us the brilliantly catchy 'Seasons' or 'Festival Song', without the awkward rapping interludes. And for that we thank them."
My favorite tracks on the record are by far "Last Night", a fun dancy track about getting a little too wild on a night out, "Sex on the Radio" which lyrically throws me back to early millenium pop-punk, "1979" and "There She Goes".There are one or two tracks that fall a little short on the record, but the overwhelming joy of getting early Good Charlotte back outweighs them by far! I would highly recommend this record to any of the early Good Charlotte fans who maybe gave up after the Good Morning Revival debacle, or anyone with an affinity for early-millenium pop-punk. Once again, Good Charlotte: Welcome back! BACK
