Caity vs. Faith of a Martyr
Recently, I stumbled over a band on Myspace called Faith of a Martyr, and I'm one of those people that clicks on the links of random bands, just to hear what's up. I dug it pretty hard, they have a great driving force and some really awesome sounds, be sure to drop by their myspace and listen to them. Well, I got the chance to talk to the guys from Faith of a Martyr and discuss themselves, their music, and of course, our random few questions! We'll start off with roll call! Who are you, and what do you do for the band? Faith Of A Martyr is: Alex - guitar/vocals Jared - drums Julian - vocals Tony - bass For people who have never seen you play, how would you describe your live show? heavy tones with raw energy... and lots of crowd involvement!!! Take us through the typical "show" day for Faith of a Martyr. Meditate, Drive around the city for a couple of hours. Listen to music. What struck me first about your band was the name: Faith of a Martyr, what does the name mean for you, and how did it come about as being your band name? The name came up while brainstorming on the phone, Faith of a Martyr stuck out like a sore thumb. Most importantly, the name will mean whatever YOU want it to mean... For us, the realization that eventually everyone will die is obvious. When we go, we will die having lived for a cause. This cause being music, our music. Drawing inspiration from acts of horror and terror when making heavy and dark music only seems right! In this day and age the martyr has been sensationalized and is surrounded by negative conotation, we're fine with this... Do you have any funny little quirks that you're cool with sharing? Special talents or anything like that? Alex has become very adept at carrying out full conversations with himself. What's your favourite thing about your fans? And do you have any quirky fan stories? The support from our fans is the best thing. Do you have any pre or post show rituals? Meditate, Drive around the city for a couple of hours. Listen to music. Have a drink...party preferably before and after the shows. How has it been trying to break into the scene in Toronto, have you found it to be particularly hard to crack? Like any other large music scene out there, Toronto's not easy. The Rock scene isn't as big as other areas like Vancouver, but we love playing shows in Toronto. The fans here, are always loud and supportive. What has been your best moment as a band to date? It's a toss up between recording the Delusion EP at Metal Works and renting a big yellow bus to take us and our fans to the Absinthe Bar in Hamilton. Hallucinations were had by many. What can we expect to see in the future of Faith of a Martyr? Lots and lots of music. The Sound Faction is make up of five girls (...and Ed) who are random at best, love to laugh and make others laugh. We try to ask all of our interviewees five random questions at the end, so here goes.
Jared - Stop Time Julian - inflicted human spontaneous combustion Tony - X-ray vision Alex - Invisibility. Who smells the worst in the band and how often do you need to spray them down with febreeze?!
Jared before drumming: Fine. Jared after drumming: Fabreeze comes out every now and then. If you could be any old-school rock god, who would you be, and how would you abuse the power? Alex would be Gene Simmons and he would commercially take over the world. Jared would be Keith Moon and he would be happy living the way Keith did. Tony would be Buddy Holly and he would play a Rock N' Roll show the way it used to be when R N' R was new to the world. Julian would be John Lennon and he would be sure to be anywhere other than New York City on December 8, 1980. Which is worse: Cheeto fingers, or juice mustaches? Cheeto Fingers Leg warmers? Functional accessory or bad fad?
A bad fad, but can look sexy when worn by the right lady... with nothing else on. Thanks again to Faith of a Martyr for talking with us, and make sure to check them out on their MySpace, and let them, and us, know what you think of them!
