The Sound Faction vs. Fei Comodo
So for those of you out there with Myspace, you might have heard of Fei Comodo, the genius guys behind the music for the Mighty Moshin' Emo Rangers. But they are so much more than that. They're a group of great guys from the UK, and recently, as my first official contribution as a staff member, I got a nice little interview with them. Here you go, folks! First and foremost for our readers out there, ROLL CALL! Who are you all, and what do each of you do for the band? Marc - Driving / Vocals Jay - Bass Rob - Drums Mike - Guitar Will - Guitar
So you guys had a slight jump in popularity over here after doing the Mighty Moshin' Emo Rangers stuff, but what was it like over there in the UK? Was there a noticeable jump in your fanbase? Yeah I guess you could say that, for like the first year and a bit after doing it, people were always going on about it, and we were close to becoming labeled as "that band that did the emo rangers song", but fortunately people started to take notice of other songs, and what we were all about, which was cool. So yeah, Emo Rangers was definitely a great help in terms of getting our name out there to people who may otherwise have never heard us. Speaking of the Emo Rangers, how was it working with them and doing all their music? Yeah it was good fun, a bit touch and go in places but it came out alright in the end! We're good mates with Chris Philips the co-creator so it was a good laugh. What are some bands you look up to, either individually, or all together? We all pretty much like the same bands to be honest, like Reuben, Sikth, Coheed & Cambria, Devil Sold His Soul etc. We all have our own personal influences too, including Korn, Bonjovi, Nirvana, RHCP, Slipknot, but I think we'll leave that list
there. The music videos you've done for "Riot to Remember" and "Break the Ice" are pretty awesome! How was it working on those? Glad you like them! Yeah they were both great fun to make. The RTR video was all done in our guitarists studio, and the latest one for BTI was all done in a tiny green screen room at some family farm activity place! Any fun on-set stories you have that you care to tell? Hmmmmm, well when we were filming for the BTI video, we all did our shots individually, and jesus, I don't think I can explain how knackering it was having to run through the whole song countless times whilst trying to go mental for the whole duration of the song! The funniest part was that most of us had severe back and neck pain for about a week after that, we're like a bunch of old men!
Actually it's not that funny, more worrying than anything. Oh and also on the set for the Riot video I (Rob) was forced not to wear earplugs, and am now partially deaf in my left ear because of it, not happy! Do any of you guys have any funny little quirks that you're cool with sharing? Special little talents, stuff like that?
Marc - very good at packing the van. CAN'T REALLY THINK OF ANYTHING ELSE! Jay - has the ability to sleep for extremely long periods of time, but on the other hand can also stay up all day and night without fail. - Has a natural gift at shoot 'em up games. - Can do this weird clicky thing with his hand, we'll make a video and send it to you. Rob - Can moonwalk. - Flare my nostrils. - Borderline pro at FIFA 08 for XBOX 360. Mike - is a recording genius. - can fix almost anything. Will - can drink beer like its water. - seems to be practically unbeatable at arm wrestling. Taking a look at your myspace, there's some nice artwork for your CD "They All Have Two Faces" which is released this September. Who did that pretty intense and eye-catching piece? The guys at Top-Two Studios did all our artwork for us. We're all extremely happy with it. The 2 kids you see on the album cover are supposed to represent the album title, because from one angle it looks like their town has burnt down and they've managed to escape, but then from the other it looks like they're arsonists and have burnt down the town themselves! Good stuff. How has it been working on the new CD? Yeah it was really cool. Bloody hard work though. Check out our video diary blog on our myspace to catch the recording of our ground-breaking new album! =D
We started recording December '07, so we are absolutely dying to get it out there now so
everyone can hear it. If your reading this, make sure buy a copy when it's out! Thank you! You must be pretty busy touring as extra promotion. How has that been? Have a favourite story/venue? Yeah well we did a 3 week headline tour in April which went really well, and we've just been doing loads of random shows since then to keep the buzz going. On the April tour our show in Southampton was wicked, played a great set and everyone seemed to be well into it which was great! After September though the real touring begins, and we're going to be on the road constantly for about 4 months!
It's going to be exhausting, but absolutely amazing at the same time. Do you have any plans in the future to do any tours outside the UK? Yeah definitely. We're hoping to get over to Europe for a few shows before next year, so keep checking our myspace for updates on that possibility! If we don't go overseas this year, I'm certain we will next year. The Sound Faction is make up of five girls who are random at best, love to laugh and make others laugh. We try to ask all of our interviewees five random questions at the end. Here goes. What's your favourite 5-letter word? "Wickk". It's our adaptation of the word wicked. We made it up, and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise! If you could have any non-standard superpower (flying, x-ray vision, etc?comic book stuff), what would yours be? Ok well this is going to sound really strange, but, I've always wished I had the power to walk into a club, and KNOW which girls would be up for getting off with me. Just think how amazing that would be, if the ones that are up for it glow bright red or something!? That would help me out so much. I don't know what that power would be called though, base vision maybe? What's your favourite song on Guitar Hero? Slipknot - Before I forget. Wellllll good. If you were a flavour of potato crisp, what one would you be? Prawn Cocktail I reckon, or maybe Ready Salted 'cause that way I wouldn't get eaten! Oh come on, who the hell likes Ready Salted!?
They're like the crisp equivalent of Victoria Beckham! Boring as f*ck!
If you could be any old school rock god for a day, how would you abuse the power? It depends how old school we're talking? I imagine being in The Beatles would've been pretty intense seen as they were the first band to do what they do. Abusing the power would definitely involve blowing rediculous amounts of money on parties, girls & alcohol!
Being able to be an arrogant prick to everyone and not having to worry about the consequences would be pretty damn funny too! So yeah, anyone in the Beatles I guess, except Ringo, 'cause he sucked. haha. Thanks again to Fei Comodo for talking with us! Be sure to check out the band's MySpace, and don't forget, Fei Comodo - "They All Have Two Faces" available September 1st, online & in all good music stores! Cheers!!
