Video Game Review: Fable 2
![]() Hello, So I bought this game, Fable 2. Fable 2 is the sequel to a very awesome game, Fable. I was looking into this game for a while before it came out, so I followed every bit of info I could get on the game. My overall opinion of it? Fantastic, now I will tell you why. As well I will tell you things that I was disappointed in. Fable 2, the story of a child beggar, gets a magic item, makes a wish, tragedy strikes! Vows revenge and becomes a Hero! That’s the beginning of the game, simple but effective. The rest of the story is all about you finding 3 people with cool skills to kill the bad guy with. Obviously it’s more complex than that, but I don’t want to reveal any major story components. The story and is way better in this one than the first, the first one seemed kind of sporadic and well, not well written. So this one is a welcome break. The voice acting is also a huge step up, seeing as they have a few actors in there some of you might recognize, Stephen Fry and Ron Glass, to name two. But it’s not just with the main character, but every person in the game is more believable. They way they interact with you and your dog (yes you get a dog), is sometimes funny, sometimes insulting to the point where you want to kill them, and you can! Which is the glory of it. Speaking of combat, its fun. Every weapon has its own traits that make no weapon better than the other, its all depending on your style. There are 2 weapon classes, Heavy and Light, within those are weapon types Heavy has Hammers, Maces and Axes, light has Longswords, Katanas and Cutlasses. Each of these weapons may do more than the other, buts is slower or less damage but is faster, or somewhere in the middle. Ranged combat is cool too, and is totally possible to do an entire fight with a gun or crossbow. I went through the whole game and pulled my sword out maybe twice. Magic is always fun, and they did a good job of making each spell have a direct damage and an area of a effect variation, so whether you want a high damage fireball in some bandits face, or rings of fire bursting forth from you to quell some Hollow Men(undead), its totally up to you. Now comes the paragraph where I bash the things I didn’t like. First off Peter Molyneux should never talk about his games, he says too much that either will not be in the game or is very as cool or intricate or massive is he makes it out to be. He said combat would change drastically depending where you are, not so much, I fought in stair wells, cliff tops, open fields, city streets, its was all the same, fun, but the same, For example, he said you’d be able to stab your sword into someone and end up sticking them to the wall. I wish, that’d be badass. He also mentioned regular season changes. Well yeah, when you’re a kid its winter, then the main part of the game when you grow up is summer, and then you beat the game and its fall. That’s all you get. Those things didn’t actually bother me that much, but what did bother me was the area of choice. He said that there would be situations where you are not sure what to do because the choice is so subtle. Not really, sacrificing your wife to the lord of shadow or not is not subtle. He also said there would be a point in the game where you’d have to make a sacrifice so huge you’d put down your controller and think about it. Maybe I’m just emotionless or something, but that never came close to happening to me. Those are just the things that bothered me enough to write about. Now comes the paragraph where I tell you about the cool little things that I loved. Clothing was awesome. Since there is no armor rating for any piece of clothing, you can wear whatever you want or wear nothing at all. Working was cool, being a blacksmith or a bartender among a few options of work. The soundtrack was absolutely phenomenal. Russell Shaw, I tip my hat to you sir. The tatts were cool, the look of both weapons and clothing, while still fairytale, looked more gritty and realistic than the first. Getting married and having kids was cool. Although I haven’t done it yet, you can have an orgy, crazy stuff. Well that was my opinion of Fable 2, a lot of people hated it for whatever reason, but I highly suggest it, it’s just as fun if not more than the first. Now I shall return to playing it through for the fourth time, peace!
