ESTATE OF GRACE - THE CONTRAST EP

Wow... I can honestly say I wasn't expecting this. When I was sent "The Contrast EP" by Estate of Grace, I wasn't sure what I was expecting. Having had a rough morning as it was, I wasn't in the best of moods when I popped the CD into my computer, and when the intro song "In Search Of..." started to play I was pleasantly surprised. Now take a deep breath, because this is a big one, and I'm walking on sacred ground here, but the first 1:35 of the song I got a huge Pink Floyd's "The Wall" vibe. Woah... give me a second to collect myself, that was hard for me to say.

Now I would never compare something to my favourite classic rock album of all time unless I really, really meant it. For you young'ns who may not have heard "The Wall", get on that... But back to Estate of Grace, I honestly got a Pink Floyd vibe from the beginning of the intro song, which quickly branched off into a pounding screaming anthem for the new masses.

I absolutely love this EP, it's got everything you need to seriously rock out, but it's not as overpowering and obnoxious as most newly emerging bands. The screaming is controlled, nobody has jammed a microphone down their throats and bellowed, the distortion on the guitars is well proportioned, and we're not clawing our ears out with too much feedback, none of that! Estate of Grace has gotten it right.

I would say that my favourite track on the record is track 4: "Two Ways On A One Way Street" which has a great sing-along melody, that I can't wait to pop into my car stereo and blast on a hot summer day. Over-all, the EP is wonderful, and I highly recommend hitting up the band's MySpace, checking them out at shows, and grabbing yourself a copy of this EP!
