HIM - Digital Versatile Doom

Digital Versatile Doom, the newest DVD/CD release from HIM depicts their live show from the Orpheum Theatre in California. With a wicked grin and ever-present cigarette in hand, Ville Valo croons the audience along with his bandmates, singing the fan staples such as Poison Girl, Killing Lonliness, The Funeral of Hearts... as well as peppering in songs from the newest album Venus Doom such as the single Passion's Killing Floor and Sleepwalking Past Hope.

For those fans who have seen HIM play live, you will be awed by the band's second-wind, having reinvented themselves as a live band. Always suave, the deep-voiced singer (Valo) takes his voice to new levels and new octaves, putting his all into amazing licks and punching the vocals with throaty screams, rounding it all out with coy witty banter from time to time. Guitarist Linde Lindstr?m breaks into shredding solos, whipping his waist-length dreads around with exceptional showmanship, Bassist, Mikko Paananen, as grungy as ever, nails bass riffs and licks with Sleepwalking Past Hope in his bass-man's double shoulder-width stance as he's known to do, all the while, Keyboardist Janne Puurtinen adds new piano parts to classic HIM songs, bringing them alive on the stage.

For those of you who have never seen HIM live, this is an essential DVD for you, it truly captures the magic and haunting presence of the band on stage.

Valo's recently found sobrity is evident in the way he performs like never before, his energy is obvious and his voice is much clearer than previous shows. He truly puts on an interactive show engaging the crowd on such crowd-pleasers as "Poison Girl" dispite a case of the gigglefits.

Extra features on the DVD include an in depth interview with Ville Valo, where he speaks on a variety of topics, including his sabattical in Lapland, Finland, his recent sobriety, and the inspiration for a few of his songs.

The DVD's accompanying CD is a 16 track playback of the show's audio, sans the Intro track, and "Right Here In My Arms", even without the visuals the show is phenomenal to listen to. This CD/DVD combo is a must-have for HIM fans! It is available for purchase from the band's Online Merch Store as well as in DVD retail stores worldwide.
