Webcomics

Webcomics, everyone knows at least one. I, personally, have a lot more than that. And whether you check that one (or... five or six...) daily, regularly, or just whenever it pops into your mind that you haven't checked it in awhile, you do check it. And chances are, you giggle, and if a really good strip comes along, you'll send the link off to your friends, so they can giggle too.

That's what I'm going to do today, kids. Here are three of my favourite Webcomics, with a few other links thrown in at the bottom.

Ctrl + Alt + Del

Oh, Ctrl + Alt + Del. This is one of the most popular ones around. In fact, this is the first web comic I started reading. One of my friends, who is just as into video games as I am sent me a link one day to a few of the Chef Brian comics and they were so insanely weird that I had to look into more. Seeing as I can't just jump into a story in the middle of the arch, I clicked the "First Comic" tab and didn't look back. (Well, actually, that's a lie. I look back constantly while waiting for updates...)

The comic follows gamers Ethan and Lucas as they deal with... well, life while being gamers. A simple concept, yes, but throw in attempts at relationships, work cutting into gaming time, and... a sentient robot name Zeke? You get something that no matter how random, still tends to be funny.

...And still spawns holidays. I don't know about you guys, but I celebrate Wintereenmas...

Least I Could Do

I actually found Least I Could Do through a banner ad one day while I was poking around Ctrl + Alt + Del. And, being the curious person I am, I clicked on it, and was a little... confused at first at what I found. I always (always) click the "First Comic" button, and I was thrown off at how different the art was from when I found it, from when it started. Initially I was a little confused by the storyline, but I kept reading. And when I got to know the story and the characters better, I couldn't help but love it. And with a character with as much charm and personality as Rayne, who just happens to remind me a freakish amount of one of my friends (Hi Jonas), I was hooked.

The main themes behind LICD are... well... whoredom, and nerd-dom, really. It follows the life of Rayne Summers and his friends as they go through their day to day life (realizing they weren't going to be 24 forever was a good moment), and watching their friendships change and evolve (Rayne and Noel's park walks are always good, too).

We got to talk to the comics creator, Ryan Sohmer, about Least I Could Do, and his other comic (which is linked at the bottom of the page), Looking For Group. Check that out here.

Questionable Content

I've never been one to even pretend I'm part of the indie scene. More often then not I get lumped into the "nu-punk" or (heh) "emo" scene. But that doesn't mean that I can't enjoy a good comic about the life of indie kid Martin, a wide range of quirky friends, and... his destructive AnthroPC Pintsize.

Not only is the comic funny, but the sheer amount of bands that they mention tends to make me poke around the internet and see what I can find out of pure curiousity. With fairly accurate, shall we say, representations of aspects of any scene, really. Not just the indie one. Shots are taken at everyone, so if you take offence, you're the kind of person the comic may be trying to offend, so don't even bother looking into it further. But if you can take everything with a grain of salt, and deal with people making fun of Hot Topic, you're in the clear.

So, love or hate the ones I've shown you, at least you've seen them now if you haven't before (even though, chances are, you have), and even if you don't like them, you might know someone who would...

And if you didn't like those, try these:

  • Sinfest

  • A cute look at, well, sinning

  • Looking For Group

  • From the guys who brought you LICD, Looking For Group is set in a WoW type of world and follows a fantasy cast.

  • VG Cats

  • Humanoid cats playing and commenting on video games. More awesome than it sounds, but it is not updated every Monday.
  • Explosm

  • Explosm seems like a good last link to provide. It's just... so, so random. No real storyline here, folks. Just good (although sometimes slightly offensive) humor.

Enjoy, guys. Hope you found, or find, something you liked.
