The Sound Faction Charity Efforts

Everyone has gone through some sort of tragedy that leaves them asking "why?" and "what I can I do to help prevent this from happening to someone else?" and sometimes you don't have to feels its impact personally to feel this way. The Sound Faction team is just like you. The Sound Faction will be holding its first major charity event and we feel we should tell you why we chose the charities we did. Whether its in memory of a loved one, something we've always wanted to get involved with or because we feel it doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

Jen - War Child Canada
I chose War Child Canada. War Child Canada is an organization that provides immediate care to war-affected children around the world. War Child Canada helps bring awareness, support and encouragement for children's rights everywhere.
I chose War Child Canada because it is something that I have always wanted to get involved with. I think what they are doing is wonderful and I'm glad to help!

Natty - ALS
I chose to work with ALS for mostly personal reasons. Over two years ago I lost my Aunt to ALS, and I had to watch her slowly go downhill to the point where she was in a wheelchair, and then bed ridden with a trac to be able to breath. When they say that ALS are three letters that change your life forever, they are not kidding. I had never heard of this diease before my Aunt had it, and now I do whatever I can with my mother to help out. I want to make just a tiny difference in hopes that no other family has to go through what our family did. My life has been changed because of this, if all I have to do is bring awareness and it helps one person, that means the world to me.

Manda - Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
I'm supporting the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation because my older cousin Tasha died of it when I was about 4 or 5. The fact that she knew she wasn't going to have children prompted her to treat me as if I was hers. I didn't really know what was going on when she did die, but when I was old enough to realize it, it broke my heart. I don't want anyone else to ever have to go through something like that, and if I can help even a little, I want to.

Caity - Leukemia/Lymphoma Society
I decided to support The Leukemia/Lymphoma Society because I tragically lost my father a few years ago to Leukemia, which completely spun my life around and disoriented me for a good year and a half. My family has been huge with supporting the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society through various charity efforts. My sister-in-law runs Marathons with TNT [the Leukemia/Lymphoma marathon team], and the rest of my family donates and tries to do our part. This is my chance to do what I can to help out a charity that means so much to my family.

Ed - Canadian Cancer Society
I chose to donate to the Canadian Cancer Society because not only did I volunteer at the Relay For Life last year, and had a lot of fun, but also, my friend Heather, who I consider like a little sister, is in a perpetual cancer scare, because in her family, it's very common. Her mother is a cancer survivor from what I know, but it has also affected other people in her family directly. It's affected a bunch of my other close friends, including JB, a friend I made through My Chemical Romance, and went to Projekt Revolution with. So really, I chose Canadian Cancer Society for them and the memory of the loved ones they've lost and come close to losing.

Doctah J - UNICEF
I'm a huge supporter of charities that help those people who have gone through epic unforeseen tragedy. Currently (and as far as I know) UNICEF is the only charity that is allowed in Myanmar to aid those affected by the recent flood. Also, it's nice help out the charity in a capacity other than trick or treating for it as a kid.

Everyone - Kenneth Gottfried
On May 18th, 2008 a man named Kenneth Gottfried was involved in a horrible incident that started out as words and led to Ken being punched. He fell to the ground, hitting his head hard enough for bleeding to start on his brain. He had to have life saving surgery in Kingston General Hospital, where he remained in a coma for about 2 weeks. After a horrible scare, he is awake, but he has sustained what Doctors expect to be permanent disabilities. He remains in KGH and though he is progressing well, he still has a long road ahead of him. On August 9th, his family and friends are holding an event called "Concerts For Ken." It's a way to give back to the community in the form of a Family Day of Fun & Entertainment. Our goal is to motivate and inspire at least one child with good family values so that they can make good choices in life. The Staff at the Sound Faction has wholeheartedly decided to include Concerts For Ken in their charity event, because Kenneth is my (Jen) cousin. The Sound Faction is like a little family, and when this happened to me, it was almost like it happened to them too. The support from them, and so many other people, from all over the world, has touched my heart, and my families.

We hope to see everyone at the Sound Faction Photo Shoot being held on July 20th at Alexander Muir Park, in Toronto Ontario. From noon to 5pm. We will have more information about these charities and ways to show your support. Come out and say "Hey!" get your picture taken by our own Photographer Caity B and help us support 7 wonderful causes!
