Caity vs. Andrew Bravener

With over 12,500 subscribers to his YouTube channel, over 70 videos and two years on YouTube, Andrew Bravener has become one of our favourite YouTubers. We love his videos, laugh at his hysterical antics and even test out his freakishly delicious snacktime ideas. A student in Ontario (that's Canada, folks...), Andrew keeps us updated with his day-to-day adventures as well as satire, straight-up comedy, artwork and on occasion some "3:00-am-five-beers-too-many"-esque Karaoke vocal stylings. I'm completely serious...

I've been a long time subscriber to Andrew's YouTube channel and have watched his videos grow in comedy and confidence and am proud to say that he has secured at spot on the YouTube list as (current ranking) #42 Most Subscribed comedian of all time, with frequent appearances on the Most Viewed Comedians lists as well.

I got the chance to talk to Andrew Bravener about his YouTube channel, his videos, and overpriced cups of spit. You heard it first on Sound Faction.

Andrew, why must we all "DO it?"

It's funny because I think that's the first time my "Catch phrase" has ever come into question. We all have to "DO it" because I think everyone is always teetering on a decision, be it important or mundane. Sometiems you need that last little push to make that decision. Hopefully at the end of the day the voice of me saying "DO it" is echoing in people's heads. They may get that extra push to do something they have wanted to but just didn't have the confidence. That's how I got onto YouTube, I just had to do it.
(Check out the montage of Andrew's catch phrase "DO it!")

Where does the inspiration for your videos come from?

They stem from conversations with friends or something I found funny during the day. If I'm laughing I usually end up thinking "How can I turn this into a video?" Like, my friends will see my videos and say "Weren't we talking about that just yesterday?"

Which video of yours has been the most fun to create?

Oh man, I loved making the one where I did a singing cover to Elton John. I knew I couldn't hit that key because, let's face it, It's Elton. After each take I was laughing so hard watching myself struggle to hit each note. I like videos of mine that make even me laugh.
(Watch Andrew belting out Elton John here!)

Did you have any idea when you started making videos on YouTube that you would have so many people watching you (at the moment over 12,500 subscribed)?

Not at all! It's still hard to process that, that so many people watch my videos as soon as I post them. I had no ambition of being "Famous" on YouTube. I still don't like to think of myself like that anyways.

How did it feel when you made the Most Subscribed Comedian of All Time list?

It feels pretty decent. Not gonna lie, seeing myself ahead of some YouTubers that I think should be number 1 makes me frusterated.

Who are your top five favourite YouTubers and why?

I'm going to say that this is in no particular order as to save my ass, though it might be!)
  • AmazingPhil: He has a lot of confidence in front of the camera and has some pretty insanely creative videos. Also I can count on him to collaborate when I need another person.
  • zacksmovies: Probably the funniest and most fabulous man on YouTube.
  • Kokiriforest: One of my first friends on YouTube and she helped keep me inspired while I was struggling with my first few movies. Also, she's a cutie.
  • ProtonJonSA: You kind of have to be a gamer to appreciate the nature of his videos but he never fails to make me laugh while getting frusterated while doing his famous "Let's Play" series.
  • K3tchuppopsicle: The man, the legend. He's the reason I'm on YouTube. he has deleted most of his videos and rarely makes them anymore, but he is pure genius.

What are your five most recently Favourited videos?

What do you think is the #1 best video on YouTube of all time?

This question means business. It's like asking who's your favourite family member... Man, I don't know there is so much amazing original content. If I HAVE to choose, I have to give it to the men and women at picnicface with their video Women in Comedy. Anythign they do is comedic gold.

You are currently enrolled in Art School, what do you plan on doing with your artwork post-University?

Acutally, I left the visual art program and ventured into another art-related program called Technical Production. It's all about set design, prop work, lighting and such for movies and theater. I learned I'm more of a hands-on, have to build it kind of guy. I blame it on lego.

You use a lot of music in your videos... what are you top 5 most played songs in iTunes (or your personal media player?)

  • 5: (Shevanel, Take 2) - Between the Buried and Me
  • 4: Alaska - Between The Buried and Me
  • 3: On Legendary - Further Seems Forever
  • 2: Typical - Mute Math
  • 1: Indian Lover - Lakes

If you had all the equipment you needed and the budget to spare, what would be your dream video to make?

Well, it would involve me doing a duet with Mika, a makeout scene with Christina Applegate, a car chase scene with Bruce Willis and finally an interview that involves cake and coffee with Keven Spacey. I'd figure out later on how to mesh it all together.

The Sound Faction is make up of five girls who are random at best, love to laugh and make others laugh. We try to ask all of our interviewees five random questions at the end. Here goes.

If you could have any non-standard (re: flying, x-ray vision... comic book stuff) superpower, what would it be?

The power to resurrect cancelled TV shows.

What is your least favourite vegetable that isn't green?

Red Cabbage.

If you were a flavour of Potato Crisp, what kind would you be?

Sexy flavored, ie: Andrew flavored. Yum.

If you could be the champion of anything, what would it be? (If you say "the world" we all start laughing hysterically, just so you know.)

Limbo champion... of the world.

If you could be any old-school rock god for a day, how would you abuse the power?

I'd spit into cups and laugh as people spend hundreds of dollars to buy my spit.

Thanks so much to Andrew Bravener for taking time out of his day to answer questions for us! Make sure to check out his YouTube channel HERE!
