Bourbon Crow - Highway to Hangovers
![]() Anyone familiar with Horror-Punk music knows that Wednesday 13, scratchy-screamy vocals, head bang worthy guitar lines, and necrophilia go hand-in-hand. Twangy acoustic guitars, washboards and mouth-harps, well... not so much. But that is exactly what Wednesday 13 has done with Highway to Hangovers. Wednesday 13 and his cohorts have once again created another side-project. Bourbon Crow is a tribute to the gods of Dixie Outlaw Country, Jennings and Williams. The prince of sarcastic-horror-punk has picked up an acoustic and created this album, a tongue-in-cheek nod to the music that rocks below the Mason-Dixon line. Of course, this is still Wednesday 13 we're talking about, and what would W13 be without the comedy twist? Despite the twangy country music, and the ever-hysterical mental image of W13 producing the voice we hear during such songs as "Alcohol is Awesome", "Drink Till You Ain't Ugly" "A Dead Body", and "Suck my Dixie", it's catchy and good lord save me, I love it! Wednesday isn't the only vocalist for Bourbon Crow, and it's hard to distinguish what voice belongs to who (since we're all so used to hearing W13's very distinct aggressive vocals with The Murderdolls, and Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13), which is probably for the best since I highly doubt the vocals would work quite as well if you have the mental image of W13 in his dread-locks, makeup, and nail polish. Seriously, check it out! It's a riot! Even if you're not a W13 fan, check it out! You have my word that it's absolutely nothing like Wednesday 13, Murderdolls, or FDQ. You can hear "Drink Till You Ain't Ugly", "Suck My Dixie", "Alcohol is Awesome", and "A Dead Body" on the band's Myspace Page. I highly recommend "A Dead Body".
