I’m not going to lie. Artist Vs. Poet is a brand new band for me, who I came across while on a mission to interview another band. And when I heard them, I couldn’t pass up the chance to ask them some questions! These guys are very talented, and I often find myself going to their Myspace just to have the songs playing as I’m doing my artwork! I cannot wait for their album.

For our readers who don't know who you are, could you please introduce yourself and what you do for the band?

For sure! Tarcy Thomason is the lead singer, Craig Calloway plays guitar and sings, Joe Kirkland plays guitar and sings, Jason Dean plays bass, and Joe Westbrook plays the drums.

How did the band come about, and where did you come up with the name?

The band started in November of 2007 when Tarcy posted a bulletin from his personal Myspace about starting a new acoustic project, and Craig responded to it, shortly after we had a few practices and wrote our first song, 'Exit The Quitters'. In January of 2008, we went into the studio with Geoff Rockwell and recorded our first e.p. During this time we decided to make it a full band sound instead of just acoustic. Later, we added Joe Westbrook, (from Tarcy's last band), and then Jason and Joe.

The name is actually a name that Tarcy has had for 3 years and finally had a band to use it for.

We know you have an album coming out in November, what can we look forward to hearing?

One thing we're really excited about is that this is the first time we've recorded an acoustic song and we're really excited for people to hear it. It is titled, 'All In', which is not yet released anywhere. The song is about really committing to what you want your life to be about and going for it 100%.

What has been the best moment for the band so far?

We would say the best moment is honestly the excitement we had when we signed to Fearless Records.

Who's your biggest influence, and what are some bands that influence you that people might be surprised by?

We are influenced by bands like Weezer, The starting line, Third eye blind, Ben folds, and the Beatles.

What is your favorite thing about playing a live show?

Honestly, getting to meet and hang out with new kids, see returning fans, and just getting to do what you want to do for a living.

Out of any song in the world, which one do you wish you had written, and why?

Well we all have different answers for this question, but one we can agree on is any song from Trapped in the Closet by R. Kelly...

What is your favorite Artist vs. Poet lyric and why?

"We've made this dream, turn into a reality", from the song "All In", and because we're really just thankful that we've been given the opportunity to make a living doing something that we all love and have wanted for such a long time.

What advice do you have for upcoming bands like yourselves?

Always, stick to the music; always be loyal to your fans because they are the ones that will get you there, and they are the ones who will keep you there, and on a business note, stay out of debt and try to achieve it on your own.

What does the future have in store for the band?

Touring touring touring!!! And next year we will be releasing a full length album. Biya!!

We would smell like the freedom of America (with a southern accent)

Who would you want to win a date with?

Tiffany Amber Thiessen (kelly from saved by the bell) mmmmmmm.. Seriously though, can you hook that up?
