Amnesia Amnesia - Versus The Bear

I honestly don't know where to start with this record. I'm honestly unsure how to proceed, so if it's all the same to you, I'm going to quote from their bio-sheet.

"Amnesia Amnesia met on a cold winter night in Belleville, Ontario after being awakened in the middle of the night by a piercing scream."

...and then they replicated that sound, as loud as they possibly could for an entire record. Now, I'm not one for the screaming hardcore music, I have to be in a very specific state of mind and mood to listen to it, and as it just so happens, I was in that particular mood when I popped in the record, pretty excited to get some aggression out.

Instead what I got was cringe-worthy bellowing as if the lead singer Todd had literally swallowed his microphone and began to shriek at the top of his lungs. Even with the lyric sheet that I was provided with, it was hard for me to follow along with the words and make any sense out of it at all, and then something strange happened. As the album flipped to track four, "Ashley, Feel Better (Or Else)", I swore that my iTunes had been set to shuffle and was playing someone else's music. All of a sudden the music mellowed out, and melody and lyrics were introduced. It threw me of and confused me.

"Ashley, Feel Better (Or Else)" is by far the best track on the five-track record, and as much as I really hate to bash on bands and judge their artistic vision, that isn't saying too much. Maybe it's just not for me, I'm sure that they have loyal fans out there who love it, but as far as I'm concerned, I can't see myself listening to this record again.
