Caity vs. A Divine Collision
My favourite thing about MySpace is the ability to network and meet people and learn about bands or artists that you would never have found out about otherwise. Case in point: we were recently e-mailed by a band called A Divine Collision who sent us a message asking us to listen to their band, claiming it would be the best thing we would ever do! Well, I've done a lot of pretty great things before, but I took their word for it and clicked on their link and gave 'em a shot, and what do you know: if not the best thing I'll do EVER, certainly the best thing I did that day! A Divine Collision comes to us from Mississauga, Ontario, newcomers to the Metal/Hardcore scene and youngsters to boot. When I learned that they were young I was even more impressed with the clean sounds and togetherness of the band! They're worth checking out, and if you happen to be local to Mississauga they're definitely worth hitting up a show! I got the chance to talk via Instant Messenger to Marc, vocalist and guitarist for the band about the local scene, their message, and what it means to be a "band of love". You heard 'em first on The Sound Faction! First and foremost, for our readers who don't know... why don't you introduce yourself and the band. Marc: Lead Vocals / Guitar Sabino: Guitar / Mullet Yannic " BlueBerry": Bass Chris: Drums Well, coming from the name " A Divine Collision", we are a band with a fused genre from all the hottest genres in this current generation but we still sound similar from other bands to keep the same vibe but we have a strong message and even stronger motivation to go far, and we have for the time we have been together. We are also pretty realistic when it comes to what we do, but at the same time we are 4 crazy mother f*ckers from Ssauga All right, since you brought it up, what exactly is the message you want to convey with your music? Well, as an emotional lyricist that's been through a lot of sh*t, and as someone who as also seen a lot of sh*t, our main message is to be strong no matter what comes your way and to just ..fight the problem that's in your face, That's the only way to gain mental strength and to grow as a person to succeed in what you want to accomplish in the world. That seems to be a prevalent message in today's scene. Being a new band, and a young band at that, have you found the local scene to be welcoming to your band, or has it been hard to crack into? Well, we started as a band in July..yes this July, and we have gotten pretty far, we got into the Mississauga scene and we are just getting into the Barrie scene, we are best known in Barrie and Mississauga, were doing a tour this year, possibly a Christmas tour (Charols Of The Underground) My band is headlining it and i started the tour on my own. We will be doing alot of local toronto shows and other great local Ontario cities/towns. That's excellent, sounds like the real D-I-Y spirit of the scene! Your MySpace says that you've had a few hardships with the lineup of the band. Now that it's settled a bit is the lineup going to stay the same? You know, as cliche as this sounds, we are family. We fight, we hug, we call Chris all sorts of nasty names just cause hes the young one ( and the newest member ) but i think we are pretty solid and i think our only obstacles for the band to stay together would be either college or Chris and i getting into fights cuz everyone's used to me being loud and "obnoxious" except for Chris, but I love the guy, he knows I'll always be there for the guy right now, were cool most of the time. All of us are just a BIG Divine Collision Of Love Well it sounds like you're on the right path, then! So tell me: For people who haven't seen you play before: how would you describe your sound and live show? For our sound, think Metal, Emo, Hardcore, 2-Step, Alternative. Like we keep hearing that we sound like, Atreyu, Bullet for my Valentine or Escape the Fate but a little bit different. Our shows, we interact with the crowd a lot, we get mosh pits, we get crazy f*cking people comin to the front of the stage just f*ckin bashing their head when I'm soloing or when Sabino's soloing or even when we are playing the breakdown from Never Die One time , there was this f*ckin COOL black guy I met at a show we played in North York, he wore skinny jeans, leather jacket, black shades, and Nike high tops, this guy was nuts! I found out he has a band and I brought him along for the tour were doing (Charols of the Underground ) Seems like it's a pretty dynamic show! What do you do to pump yourselves up for the show? Any pre or post show rituals? Well, we will have a couple of cigarettes, we will meet all these amazing people, that's a personal booster for me. We also just listen to HxC music (as blood runs black) in Yannics van and just pump ourselves up, and I'll just talk to and maybe hit on the ladies that want it lol BUT not be a jerk at the same time. Lets not forget I'm a man of love, haha Of course, we mustn't forget that it's all about the love! What has been your best moment as a band so far? Either playing our first show in North York, or chilling in Chris's hot tub at 4 in the morning then going streaking for an hour then walking into 7-11 asking for slushies haha! Sounds like a good time! So tell us: What's on the horizon for the band? Anything we can look forward to? Lots lots of new stuff coming your way. Were getting A Divine Collision panties, shirts and stickers done before Christmas, were recording our album in Oct/Nov, we got this tour coming along and a lot of shows. We are men of partying so, we will play a lot of house parties, just for the hell of it. If i get a drink or a lady, I'm game ahahaha Now: The Sound Faction is made up of six staff members
who are all super random and love to make people laugh... we like to end all
of our interviews with five random questions, so if you're game let's do it! alright, I'm down! Okay! If you could have any Non-standard super power, what would it be? A super power? hmmm, I got a few but they're pretty inappropriate for this haha so I'll just say probably reading peoples minds Cheeto fingers or Juice mustaches? Depends what you're doing with your fingers and/or mustaches afterwards If you could be any "Rock-God" for a day, who would you be and how would you abuse the power? I can answer this for Sabino, he'd say something along the lines of "I'd be Slash [of Guns and Roses] and I'd use my Slash powers to get money and f*ck b*tches all day." If you could be the champion of anything, what would it be? (Extra
points for creativity) Champion of sushi rolling... I'm not very creative outside of music. Who smells the worst in the band, and how often do you have to spray
him down with Febreze? We all smell pretty nice when we sweat, so no Febreze needed. Thanks so much for talking with us: here's your shameless self-promo
spot! Anything you'd like to add about the music, yourself, or anything at all? no no , Thank YOU, and nothing really else. Just, keep your eyes open for us, and we love the people who already support us so thank you everyone! Thanks again to Marc of A Divine Collision for getting in touch with us and agreeing to the interview! For you, readers, check out the band's MySpace, Facebook, or Supernova Page to keep tabs on them, hear samples of their music, and find show dates near you!
