ADAKAIN - SILHOUETTE OF LIES
75% of the time, I prefer to listen to more mellow, melodic (some may say sappy), indie/pop-rock music. There was a time when I was doing the alt-rock thing nearly exclusively (it was in High School, and I refuse to tell you how many years ago that was). However, there is that 25% void to fill with all sorts of other stuff, and a good 3% of that is reserved for alt-rock that reminds me of the simple high school days. That being said, there has to be a bit of a perfect-storm to get me to that place, and as luck would have it, that perfect storm has been brewing for a few days, and came to its apex about 5 minutes before I opened iTunes to give AdaKain a try!

AdaKain's EP "Silhouette of Lies" is brand new to me, I had never heard anything from this band before, so as always I was excited to hear something brand new to me! As soon as I turned on track number one Sky is Falling, I knew I was in for something good! I was home alone which meant I could blast the music as loud as I pleased, and I was in the perfect teeth-clenching state of mind to listen to something a bit more more aggressive than I normally do.

The first track is a great lead-in to the EP, and a perfect introduction to band if this is your first experience with them! It has driving guitar lines and a pounding beat, while keeping the melody energetic and definitely something I want to belt out at the top of my lungs.

Track number two, Distant Eyes, is by far my favorite on the EP. The melody is so beautiful, and although it's a slower ballad, the band manages to keep interest throughout the entire song. One of the things I've found with most of these alt-rock bands is that when they're hitting it hard and fast all is well, but when they try to slow it down, it loses the listener out of boredom. AdaKain hit the balance between hard-hitting, and beautiful ballad perfectly and allowed me to mellow out a little bit without putting me down for a nap.

Track three, Good Time Girl, is my least favorite on the EP. Not that it's a terrible song by any means, but I didn't wasn't as excited by this song as I was by the others. Track four, Dreaming wasn't far ahead of Good Time Girl, unfortunately. It's an okay song, but it just didn't have that je ne sais quoi that the first two tracks had.

Just when I was starting to lose a little faith in AdaKain, track five (In The Shadows) hit hard and with vengance and got me rocking out again! I am madly in like with the guitar lines in this song, and had to listen to it a few times before I could move on to the final track!

The last track on the EP, Change, starts off with an extremely catchy melody that I love! This song keeps it mellow throughout while managing to keep the pounding guitar lines that I so love! All in all a fantastic ending to the EP, and does exactly what an Extended Play is meant to do, give a taste, satisfy for a bit, and leave you craving more! I'm on board with AdaKain, count me in the fan-base!

For those of you who like early-millenium alt-rock in the vein of Nickleback, Three Days Grace, 3 Doors Down or Seether, give AdaKain a try, I think you'll be pleasently surprised! As for me, this EP is exactly what I needed to get my high-school era feelings out! To learn more about AdaKain, head over to their Facebook to listen to samples of their music, and keep up-to-date with the band's going-ons!
