The 30 Day Song Challenge (Days 16-30) ![]()
So if you have a Facebook account, you've probably seen the "30 Day Challenges", where a theme is picked, and you are supposed to post something according to the theme each day for thirty days. A ton of my friends participate in the 30 day challenges, and it gets irritating after a while, so when I was invited to join in on the "30 Day Song Challenge", I really wanted to, but I thought about my friends news feeds, and how irritated I get when I see a zillion updates about the same thing every day for a whole month. Instead, I decided to power through the song challenge in one day, right here on The Sound Faction, because it soes sound like a good time, and a great way to share new music, which is what we are all about! So without further ado, here is the second half of my 30 Day Song Challenge! (Read the first half, here!)
Day 16 - A Song That You Used To Love But Now Hate: Molly Hatchet - Flirtin' With Disaster Thanks a lot, Rock Band. My roommate played this song apx 400 bazillion times within a few months, and I got SO sick of hearing it, that I nearly swore off Molly Hatchet entirely. Fortunately I can still listen to the rest of Molly Hatchet without going homicidal, but unfortunately, Flirtin' With Disaster is ruined for a good long time. Day 17 - A Song You Hear Often On The Radio: Ke$ha - Take It Off Honestly, I haven't listened to the radio since I was in middle school. The radio has always irritated the crap out of me. However, my roommate listens to internet radio a lot, and it almost always involves Ke$ha in some capacity. Day 18 - A Song That YOu Wish You Heard on the Radio: Less Than Jake - The Science of Selling Yourself Short Again, I don't listen to the radio, but if I did I would probably want to hear a ton of ska (have you picked up on the fact that I'm a big Ska fan, yet?). Less Than Jake is a great band, and I super love this song. Day 19 - A Song From You Favorite Album: The Parlotones - Remember When... This song comes off of the album "Stardust Galaxies" by The Parlotones, a South African band. I am in love with this entire record, literally every single song on it. I don't know if Stardust Galaxies is my favorite record of all time, but it's definitely in top 5, and it's certainly the one I've been listening to most in the past few months. Day 20 - A Song That You Listen To When You're Angry: The Offspring - Bad Habit Ok, first and foremost a warning: This song contains bad language that when you're angry is really really super compelling to scream at the top of your lungs. I don't get angry often, and generally when I'm angry, I take a few deep breaths and listen to something to calm myself down, but there are times (I admit it...) that you just need to rage out, and Bad Habit is a good song for that. Day 21 - A Song That You Listen To When You're Happy: Lucky Boy's Confusion - Hey Driver This is one of those "driving down the interstate with the windows down on a bright sunny day with your best friends, blasting music and singing along top volume" kind of songs. I adore LBC, and this is just a fantastically feel-good song! Day 22 - A Song That You Listen To When You're Sad: One Less Reason - If You Want Me Sometimes a girls gotta cry! Generally I am not a crier, but even I can't deny the benefits of a good theraputic cry-fest. This is one of the songs that when I'm down is almost gaurenteed to kick-start the waterworks. Day 23 - A Song That You Want To Play At Your Wedding: Suburban Legends - High Fives I'm not sappy, or a die-hard romantic. My wedding will be a dance-fest fun-a-thon. There will be no "Wind Beneath My Wings" crap, or lovey-dovey crap. There will, however, be lots of skanking, lots of dancing and a whole whack of high-fives! Day 24 - A Song That You Want To Play At Your Funeral: The Aquabats - The Shark Fighter! Seeing as my funeral song is completely out of my control (yannow, cuz I'll be dead and all) I texted my friend Mia to ask her what song she thinks should be played at my funeral, and she replied: "Something epic that will make people think you died spectacularly. Something like Shark Fighter! by the Abats." So friends, family, acquaintences, take this as a portion of my last will and testament, at my funeral, my memorial song will be The Shark Figher. Day 25 - A Song That Makes You Laugh: 3OH!3 - Don't Trust Me This song is so obscenely rediculous that it is nearly impossible not to laugh. Above and beyond that, Sound Faction BFF Shep and I constantly sing this song at top volume in my car (with added choreography). We often substitute "Hellen Keller" with any variety of our friends with 4 syllable names. The second that Shep imitates the Korg with her mouth, I crack my shit up. Day 26 - A Song That You Can Play On An Instrument: Weezer - Buddy Holly I play piano and acoustic guitar, and often times when I'm bored, I take obnoxious songs and create ironic covers of them. Oh, also, I hate Weezer. I can't stand this song. I play Buddy Holly on my piano nice and slow, turning it into a lullaby. Usually I crack up halfway through and can't finish it, but it stands, I can in fact play Buddy Holly on the piano. Day 27 - A Song That You Wish You could Play: Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird Picture this: you're at a concert, and the band is kicking ass. Suddenly there's some douchebag by the bar who has imbibed one too many PBR's, and he screams "FREEBIRD!" like a jackass. Everyone rolls their eyes and ignores him, but the band has another plan... without warning, they PLAY FREEBIRD. That is the ultimate "suck it" to that doucher in the back. I want to witness that someday, but where as I know that may well not happen... I want to be able to play Freebird, so if I am ever in that situation, I can make it happen. Day 28 - A Song That Makes You Feel Guilty: Eric Johnson - Cliffs of Dover I assume that this means a "guilty pleasure" song, but I don't actually have any guilty pleasures. I freely admit to all the lame music I listen to, and don't feel bad about it in the slightest. So instead, I'm going to take this as LITERAL guilt. Whenever I hear this song (that I LOOOOVE) I feel guilty, because I stole this CD from my brother when I was in 8th grade. (Sorry, Paddy!) Day 29 - A Song From Your Childhood: Gin Blossoms - Hey Jealousy When "Hey Jealousy" came out in 1993, I was eight years old. I think that constitutes childhood. (Also, I listen to that song all the time, still.) Day 30 - Your Favorite Song At This Time Last Year: Melee - Frequently Baby This time last year, I was on a huge Melee kick. I don't remember if this was my super-fave at the time, but it's certainly a fantastic song, and I was certainly listening to it a LOT. BACK
